Vehicle crashes into north Edmonton home

Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a collision that caused significant damage to a home in the north end.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. today (Monday, May 11, 2015) Northeast Division patrol members conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver in the area of 50 Street and 146 Avenue. The vehicle, a 2013 Jeep Patriot, was being operated at a high rate of speed and was proceeding against traffic. Shortly after the traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle backed into a police cruiser and fled from officers at speeds estimated between 120 and 150 km/hr.

Patrol officers did not follow the vehicle. Air 1 took over the monitoring of the speeding vehicle, which struck a curb on 153 Avenue and crashed through a wooden fence and deck of a home at 46 Street and 154 Avenue. The vehicle then crashed into the home, becoming lodge in the front attached garage of the residence.

The accused sustained non-life threatening injuries and none of the occupants of the home were injured.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision, and charges are pending. Traffic Section’s Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
