Police charge fourth person in 2015 homicide of Deng Tong

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section has charged a fourth man with first-degree murder in connection with the 2015 stabbing death of Deng Mathew Garang Tong, 23, of Edmonton.

Jonathan Piche, 32, of Ft. McMurray, was arrested and taken into custody by Ft. McMurray RCMP at a residence in that city Wednesday evening, at the request of EPS Homicide Section investigators.

Piche is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder (x3) and aggravated assault (x3)

Background:
On Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the EPS responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 102 Street and 107 Avenue where they found two males suffering from stab wounds.

Further information directed patrol officers one block away to an apartment at 103 Street and 107 Avenue, where they discovered Tong, a third male, suffering from stab wounds.

EMS treated and transported the 23-year-old male to hospital where he died. Police believe the two incidents were related.

Clinton Robert Kailek, 26, Billy Joe Nelson, 37, and Tyler Strathdee, 27, were also charged in relation to this homicide.

This was Edmonton’s third homicide of 2015.
