Police charge man with uttering threats; investigation continues

On Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 at approximately 10 a.m., police were contacted in regards to a threatening e-mail sent to a staff member of the United Conservative Party. Due to the specific and violent nature of the threat, investigators took an 18-year-old into custody, without incident. Abdul Anas Habash, 18, was charged with uttering threats.

A search warrant was later obtained on a residence in Edmonton, where investigators were able to determine there was no risk to public safety.

The EPS continues to investigate the incident that occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 involving a letter received by an Edmonton Mosque.

The EPS would like to stress the importance of community, tolerance and respectful dialogue and remind the public that all allegations of threats, hate crimes or hate-motivated crimes reported to police will be investigated with criminal charge(s) being a potential outcome.

No further information is being released at this time as these investigations are ongoing.
