Investigators seek witnesses to violent assault in southeast Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is investigating a violent, random assault that has left a 65-year-old man fighting for his life in hospital.

Southeast Division patrol officers responded to a 911 call for assistance yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at approximately 3:30 p.m., near 48 Street and 22 Avenue in the neighbourhood of Pollard Meadows.

Upon arrival, members found a 65-year-old male on the ground in medical distress. Paramedics treated and transported the male complainant to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains today, Thursday, Feb. 28, in critical condition.

Homicide investigators have since taken a male suspect into custody.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed an altercation on the footpath near the southeast corner of 23 Avenue and 50 Street around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, to contact to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
