Assist to locate: Police searching for human trafficking suspect

The Edmonton Police Service has issued warrants for the arrest of a 26-year-old male in connection to a human trafficking investigation.

Southeast Division investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 26-year-old Kevin Myrthil, who recently moved from Montreal to Toronto. Investigators responded to a 911 call regarding an assault at a hotel on Gateway Boulevard near 40 Avenue, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Myrthil had allegedly recruited a 19-year-old female complainant from Ontario to work in the sex trade industry in Edmonton. It is alleged that the male arranged for clients to have paid sexual services with the woman along the way while travelling to Edmonton.

It was also reported to police that Myrthil physically forced the complainant to take drugs against her will, assaulted the young woman, and held her captive in the Edmonton hotel room. Myrthil used the complainant’s debit card at multiple locations without authorization, spending upwards of $2,200.

Myrthil fled the hotel prior to the arrival of police, and is believed to be on his was to B.C. with another female sex trade worker. They are reportedly travelling in a 2017 black Grand Cherokee with a Quebec licence plate.

He is described as being a black male, 5’8”, 180 lbs, muscular, shaven hair on the side of his head with dreadlocks on the top. He has several tattoos including a new one titled “Moneyy” on the left eyebrow. He also has stars tattooed under his right eye and a Haiti flag tattooed on his back.

Investigators have since issued warrants for Myrthil’s arrest including:

• Trafficking in persons

• Administer to take a drug to overcome resistance

• Assault

• Unlawful confinement

• Intimidation

• Theft Under $5,000
  

Further charges may be pending.
