Southwest Division detectives investigate weapons complaint and fire

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a weapons complaint and fire that occurred in south Edmonton Tuesday afternoon.

Southwest Division patrol members were responding to a request from Edmonton Fire Rescue for scene containment at approximately 3:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015, when a subsequent weapons complaint was received at the same Sandin Way address.

It was reported to police, that a male illegally entered a nearby residence, and exited with a backpack containing multiple firearms. Upon being confronted by a witness, the male suspect allegedly dropped the backpack and fled the scene.

Edmonton firefighters were also dispatched, after a fire was discovered inside the residence. The fire was successfully brought under control. Fire and police continue to investigate, though a cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
