David Gershon Bookhalter, 60, has been charged with failure to stop at scene of accident knowing bodily harm was caused and failure to stop at scene of accident knowing death was caused.
Background:
The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal hit and run collision between a car and a motorcycle that took place Monday, May 11, 2015 in southwest Edmonton.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., it was reported a 24-year-old male and 26-year-old female were riding a motorcycle, travelling southbound on 122 Street towards the Whitemud Drive intersection on a green light.
A silver Infiniti vehicle was travelling northbound on 122 Street and made a left-hand turn at Whitemud Drive, allegedly striking the motorcycle in the intersection before travelling westbound on Whitemud Drive.
Police believe the male and female were thrown from the motorcycle. The male driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and transported to hospital by EMS. The female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
Witness reports assisted EPS officers in locating a 60-year-old male suspect in west Edmonton. He was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending at this time.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate the collision.
