At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015, it was reported a 24-year-old male and 26-year-old female were riding a motorcycle, travelling southbound on 122 Street towards the Whitemud Drive intersection at a green light.
A silver Infiniti vehicle was travelling northbound on 122 Street and made a left-hand turn at Whitemud Drive, allegedly striking the motorcycle in the intersection before travelling westbound on Whitemud Drive.
Police believe the male and female were thrown from the motorcycle. The male driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and transported to hospital by EMS, where he remains in serious condition. The female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
Witness reports assisted EPS officers in locating a 60-year-old male suspect later that evening in west Edmonton. He was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending at this time.
The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate the collision and are looking for witnesses.
