Three suspicious death investigations now being treated as homicides

The EPS Homicide Section has classified three suspicious death investigations as homicides in recent weeks.

On May 9, 2020, Mohamed Amin Hassan Jama, 34, was located deceased inside a suite in the area of 107 Avenue and 116 Street.

On June 25, 2020, Rajan Baraich, 31, was located in the area of 107 Avenue between 101 and 102 Street with life-threatening injuries following a hit-and-run. Baraich succumbed to his injuries in hospital the next day, on June 26, 2020.

On July 26, 2020, Gabriel Sunshine, 24, was located deceased following a disturbance at a residence in the area of 16 Avenue and 42 Street.

Due to further progression in each of these investigations, Homicide Section is now classifying these suspicious deaths as homicides. No additional information is available for release at this time.

There have been 27 homicides in Edmonton so far this year.
