Driver charged in fatal pedestrian collision

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) continues to investigate a collision that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl.

Just before 11 p.m. on Sunday (April 15, 2018) a girl was struck by a pick-up truck at 113 street and Kingsway Ave while crossing the road in a marked crosswalk.

 

The truck fled the scene but an off-duty EPS member driving by witnessed the collision and followed the truck while providing information to 911/Dispatch.  

 

EMS was dispatched at the same time to the scene of the collision. Paramedics treated and rushed the girl to hospital, but she was pronounced dead in hospital a short while later.

 

The driver was arrested a short while later north of 107 Avenue, in the area of 108 Street by patrol officers dispatched to the area.

 

The driver, Shane Stevenson, 47, is charged with impaired driving causing death, over 80mg causing death and hit and run causing death.
