Police charge male in southwest fentanyl overdose death

A 33-year-old male is facing several charges including manslaughter in connection with the fentanyl over-dose death of a Sherwood Park man.

Southwest Division patrol members responded to a call for assistance in a parking lot near Gateway Boulevard and 43 Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2017.

Upon arrival, members found a deceased 39-year-old male slumped over in a vehicle.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner has since confirmed through autopsy and toxicology results that the 39-year-old male died as a result of a fentanyl overdose.

Jamie Michael Dixon, 33, of Edmonton, was arrested earlier today, Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, and was charged with manslaughter and trafficking (x3).

                                               
Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the name of the deceased as it serves no investigative purpose.
