Escaped female prisoners located

Downtown Division patrol officers have located and detained the two female prisoners who escaped from the Edmonton Institution for Women on Monday (Oct. 2) evening.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., on Oct. 2, 2017, prison officials reported that two of their inmates had jumped the east fence and escaped from the facility, located at 11151-178 St. West Division patrol members and the EPS Canine Unit responded to the scene, but were unable to locate the two prisoners. Both women are violent offenders with a history of weapons offences.

 

At approximately 8:30 p.m., today (Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017), a citizen in the downtown area called police after recognizing the females. Patrol members responded and located the women walking down the street in the area of 104 Street and 102 Avenue.

 

The females are currently in EPS custody, and will be returned to the custody of Correctional Service Canada.
