Just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 members of a STAT team were conducting investigations in the area of 44 Avenue and 211 Street in relation to suspicious vehicles in an area frequented by people in the drug trade. During an attempted traffic stop, an incident occurred when one of the vehicles attempted to flee. During the incident, two officers were injured, and an officer discharged his service pistol, injuring the driver of the vehicle.
The injured male was treated and taken to hospital, and the other two suspects were arrested by SW Division officers at the scene. Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
ASIRT continues to investigate the shooting.
The driver of the vehicle was released from hospital today and transported to SW Division to face charges. One male passenger in the suspect vehicle has also been charged. No charges have been laid against the third suspect.
