Police charge male in relation to multiple robberies

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 34-year-old male in relation to three robberies in downtown Edmonton.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017 at approximately 4:30 p.m., downtown patrol officers responded to the report of a robbery at a restaurant in the area of 100 Street and 103 Avenue. A suspect male reportedly entered the establishment and threatened staff with a weapon.

The following week, officers responded to two additional early morning robberies involving the same suspect: one on Monday, Jan. 23 in the area of 116 Street and 104 Avenue and another on Tuesday, Jan. 24 in the area of 104 Street and 99 Avenue. Again, store clerks were reportedly threatened with a weapon.

Shortly after the third robbery, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, officers proactively patrolling in the area recognized the suspect male, who is known to police, in another convenience store. After resisting arrest, he was taken into custody without incident.

Aaron Joseph, 34, has been charged with robbery (x3), assault with the intent to resist arrest (x2) and breach of recognizance (x7).
