Autopsies completed on two suspicious deaths in southwest Edmonton

Edmonton’s Medical Examiner has completed the autopsies on two individuals found deceased in their residence in southwest Edmonton on Jan. 17, 2017.

A 59-year-old female died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police have deemed the manner of death a homicide.

A 74-year-old male also died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police have deemed the manner of death to be non-criminal.

The woman’s death is the fourth homicide in Edmonton in 2017.

This investigation is concluded and no charges will be laid.

Homicide Section will not be releasing the names of the two deceased.

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the names of the deceased in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.

Background

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, a concerned individual known to the couple went to check on their welfare and contacted police. Officers responded to the residence in the area of Riverbend Road and Terwillegar Drive just after 7 p.m. Upon arrival, police found a deceased adult male and a deceased adult female.
