Cyclist in critical condition following collision with vehicle

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist that occurred in northwest Edmonton earlier this afternoon.

Northwest Division officers responded the collision scene near Kingsway and Tower Road at approximately 12:40 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 16, 2016.

Upon arrival they discovered a 59-year-old male on the ground in distress.

It was reported to police that a female motorist driving a Toyota Corolla was travelling eastbound on Kingsway, before turning southbound on Tower Road.

The cyclist was reportedly travelling eastbound on the south sidewalk along Kingsway, before attempting to cross Tower Road, when the collision occurred.

Paramedics treated and rushed the male cyclist to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
