Police looking for witnesses, dash cam footage of Yellowhead Trail collisions

The Edmonton Police Service is hoping to speak with witnesses and collect dash cam footage in relation to two collisions that took place on Yellowhead Trail yesterday.

At approximately 5 p.m. yesterday evening, Thursday, July 23, 2020, Northeast Division officers responded to the report of a multi-vehicle collision in the area of Yellowhead Trail between 50 Street and Victoria Trail.  It was reported to police that a red Ford F150 truck was travelling eastbound on Yellowhead Trail when it struck the rear of a silver Mazda CX-5 SUV, which then subsequently struck the rear of a semi-tractor trailer. The truck and the SUV then reportedly left the roadway, drove into a median under construction and flipped, landing on their sides. All three vehicles were reported to be travelling eastbound on Yellowhead Trail in the same lane.

EMS responded, treated and transported the 23-year-old male driver of the truck and the 57-year-old female driver of the SUV to hospital with minor injuries. The 59-year-old male driver of the semi was not injured.

Following the investigation, officers learned that prior to the multi-vehicle collision the Ford F150 was also reportedly involved in a hit-and-run collision with a purple Chevrolet Equinox in the area of Yellowhead Trail eastbound and 66 Street. The 19-year-old male driver of the Equinox was also treated for minor injuries and transported to hospital by EMS.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section continues to investigate the collisions and is looking to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time, including other drivers travelling eastbound or westbound on Yellowhead Trail who may have dash cam footage of the events.

Anyone with information or dash cam footage of either collision is asked to contact the EPS complaint line at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
