Male suspect shot and killed by police in west-end parking lot

At approximately 8:15 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, EPS officers were attempting to arrest a male suspect wanted on outstanding warrants while driving a vehicle in a shopping centre parking lot near Groat Road and 113 Avenue.

The male suspect then reportedly collided with an EPS vehicle in an attempt to flee the scene, while EPS vehicles attempted to box in the suspect vehicle.

 

A confrontation then occurred between the male suspect and officers, and the officers subsequently discharged their service weapons. The 29-year-old male suspect was struck and killed.

 

A firearm was subsequently found at the scene.

 

The EPS officers are safe and unharmed.

 

The EPS will not be providing further comment as the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has since taken the lead in this investigation.
