VICE on patrol

Members of the Edmonton Police Service VICE Unit and Northeast Division conducted proactive enforcement to effectively disrupt exploitive activities associated to street-level consumers (“johns”) of the sex trade.

On Thursday, Feb. 9 and Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, police focused their two-day enforcement on persons purchasing sexual acts from sex workers contrary to the Criminal Code.

 

Over the two-day operation:

• 26 males were arrested and charged with obtaining of sexual services for consideration.
• Offenders arrested ranged in age from 19 to 60.
• Professions of accused included a university student, trade workers, professionals and unemployed.
• Police also laid charges for: trafficking (x2) and a 24-hour suspension under the Traffic Safety Act.   

“VICE Unit takes this exploitative behaviour seriously,” says Staff Sgt. Dale Johnson with EPS VICE Unit. “The police work hard to deter “johns” from our neighbourhoods and to keep our communities safe.”
