On Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, police responded to a two vehicle collision just after 3:10 p.m. in the area of 144 Avenue and Ebbers Boulevard. It was reported that a 2003 Toyota Corolla was travelling southbound on Ebbers Boulevard and attempting to turn eastbound onto 144 Avenue at a stop sign, when it was struck by a 2016 Ford F150 that had been travelling 111 km/h westbound in a 60 km zone.
EMS responded, treated and transported the 43-year-old male driver of the Toyota Corolla to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Gary Stokes, the 47-year-old male driver of the Ford F-150, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Stokes is charged with speeding under the Traffic Safety Act and is expected to appear in court on March 16, 2017.
Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.
This was Edmonton’s first traffic fatality of 2017.
