Homicide investigators charge 38-year-old man with manslaughter

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 38-year-old man with manslaughter in connection with the recent death of an Edmonton man.

Downtown Division patrol members were dispatched to an address near 85 Street and Jasper Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, after receiving a 911 call.

Upon arrival, officers located a 50-year-old male in medical distress in the residence, the result of an alleged physical altercation with the accused. Paramedics treated and transported the male complainant to hospital with critical injuries.

Investigators initially charged Terrance Logan Farnham, 38, with aggravated assault, but have since upgraded the charge to manslaughter, after the 50-year-old male succumbed to his injuries in hospital two days later on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.

The deceased and accused were known to one another.

An autopsy was conducted on the deceased male earlier this week by the Medical Examiner, which is awaiting toxicology results before confirming cause and manner of death.

Homicide Section will not be releasing the names of the deceased.
Every investigation is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the names of the deceased in this particular investigation, as the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families as outlined under FOIP legislation.
