Police charge three after alleged assault on officers

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating after three EPS officers were allegedly assaulted over the weekend.

In the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015 around 2:15 a.m. southwest officers were in the area of 105 Street and 82 Avenue when they witnessed a group of people jay walking.

When officers approached the group, a struggle quickly ensued between the members and three individuals. The individuals allegedly became aggressive and assaulted the three officers.

The following individuals have since been charged:

Dylan Austin, 23, is charged with assaulting a police officer

Jordan Royal, 23, is charged with assaulting a police officer and obstruction

Savana Haynes, 24, is charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction and uttering threats

“Public safety is our number one priority,” says Insp. Erik Johnson with Southwest Division.  “While we appreciate that those visiting the entertainment district are there to enjoy themselves, we would like to remind the public to do so in a safe and responsible manner.”

The three officers were treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.
