Firearms trafficker charged

A Bonnyville man faces four charges related to firearms trafficking in Edmonton.

On October 19, 2019, the Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Section’s Guns and Gangs Team initiated a firearms trafficking investigation after learning that a 37-year-old Bonnyville man had purchased 14 restricted handguns in the preceding 30 days. The male was subsequently identified as a “straw purchaser,” or someone who purchases firearms legally and diverts them to those who are not legally able to purchase firearms.

During the investigation, police observed the male entering a residence in the area of 153 Avenue and 121 Street with three restricted handguns he had recently purchased.  The same male then exited the residence shortly thereafter without the handguns.

Search warrants executed at the northwest Edmonton residence, as well as a residence in Bonnyville, AB, resulted in the seizure of three rifles, two shotguns, three handguns and ammunition.

Firearms seized

Craig Jacobs, 37, was arrested on October 23, 2019, and has been charged with trafficking weapon or firearm (x2) and possession of weapon or firearm for the purpose of trafficking (x2).
