Autopsy complete in southwest Edmonton homicide

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Riel Stamp, 26, today, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds. The EPS has determined the manner of death a homicide.

Brett Cordelius Stamp, 28, has been charged with first degree murder, assault causing bodily harm, killing an animal (under section 445 of the Criminal Code of Canada), and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Background

At approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, police were called to a residence in the area of 24 Avenue and 108 Street for a weapons complaint. Upon arrival, officers located a male and female with minor injuries, as well as two children, who were uninjured. When police entered the residence, they found another male with serious injuries; he was declared deceased on scene by EMS.

The male was taken into police custody. The female was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The children received support and were being cared for by a family member.
