Autopsy complete, charges laid in west Edmonton homicide

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on 39-year-old Michael Podgorney on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020. The manner of death has been confirmed to be homicide, and it was determined Podgorney died of stab wounds.

One person has been charged with second degree murder. The accused cannot be named because they are a youth.

Background

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, police were called to the area of 166 Street and Stony Plain Road on the report of an altercation. Upon arrival, officers located a male with life-threatening injuries.

Police and paramedics attempted to treat the man, but he succumbed to his injuries on scene.
