EPS seizes over $400,000 in cocaine

The Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Unit arrested a male and seized a large amount of cocaine that was destined for our city streets.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, police executed search warrants at two residences.

The following was seized from each location:

Residence in the Chappelle Neighbourhood:

  • 6 kg of packaged cocaine hydrochloride with an estimated street value of $434,000.
  • 1 kg of buffing agent.
  • Other cocaine related tools and solvents.

 

Residence in the Mactaggart Neighbourhood:

  • 6 g of cocaine hydrochloride with an estimated street value of $420.
  • $3,260 in Canadian currency.
  • Money counter.
  • Other cocaine related tools and solvents.
  • Other drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Detectives found a hidden compartment in the trunk of a Toyota Rav 4 that was also seized. The aftermarket value to install the hidden compartment is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000.

“We’re working to dismantle the drug trade in Edmonton and let criminals know they’re not wanted in our neighbourhoods,” says Staff Sgt. Kevin Berge with EDGE Unit. “Every arrest and drug seizure makes a difference.”

Upon arrest, $1,410 was located in possession of the accused and seized.

Duy Nguyen, 31, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2), and proceeds of crime.
