Over 3,200 traffic violations issued during “Operation 24 Hours”

Edmonton Police Service officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement handed out a total of 3,238 traffic violations April 2nd, during Operation 24 Hours.

The 24-hour enforcement period took place yesterday, Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Of the total 3,238 traffic violations, 2,539 speeding tickets were issued (manned and automated enforcement). There were also more than 650 other Traffic Safety Act violations, including a 137 violations issued for distracted driving. There were 10 Criminal Code driving offences.

 

In one incident, EPS members conducted a vehicle stop near the High Level Bridge, after a motorist was spotted driving erratically. The motorist was arrested and charged with impaired driving, after providing two samples of 250 mgs of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
