EPS officer charged with assault

An Edmonton Police Service (EPS) member was charged today, March 5, 2019, in relation to an incident that occurred in December 2017.

Const. Matthew O’Mara, a three year member with the EPS, was charged with one count of assault pursuant to Sec. 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The charge stems from an on-duty incident while dealing with a subject in the area of Jasper Avenue and 103 Street. 

 

The constable remains on active duty, in a non-patrol capacity.

 

The charges follow an in-depth investigation by the EPS Professional Standards Branch which was subsequently reviewed by Alberta Justice.

 

As the matter is currently before the courts, the EPS is not able to provide further comment or information about the incident or investigation.
