Investigators looking for surveillance images from public in connection to recent violent crime scenes

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is hoping residential surveillance cameras in two neighborhoods could contain critical information that may help to progress a pair of investigations. Investigators are asking residents who live near two recent violent crime scenes in the neighborhoods of Montrose in northeast Edmonton and The Orchards by Ellerslie in the city’s far southeast, to contact police if they have residential surveillance, or even vehicle dash cams, that may contain critical footage of potential suspects.

Last Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, 59-year-old Barbara Nelson died in hospital of blunt force trauma, following a violent home invasion at a home near 119 Avenue and 61 Street. Last night, a young adult male was found with undisclosed injuries outside of a residence on Crabapple Crescent in The Orchards of Ellerslie. He was rushed to hospital, where he would succumb to his injuries shortly thereafter.

While these acts of violence have undoubtedly shaken both neighbourhoods, investigators believe the two deaths were targeted, not random occurrences, and are unrelated.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office has since scheduled an autopsy for Wednesday regarding the death of the 24-year-old male found on Crabapple Crescent Monday evening.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have surveillance images of either crime scene and/or the streets leading into or out of those respective locations to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
