Homicide detectives release photos in attempt to find witnesses to LRT stabbing

Homicide detectives released several photos today of individuals they believe may have witnessed a fatal stabbing April 11th near the Coliseum LRT Station.

“We’re hopeful that some or all of these individuals will contact police immediately, as they could have information that will assist us in our investigation into this tragic loss of life,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Derksen, EPS Homicide Section.

“This incident occurred during the afternoon rush hour with plenty of motorists driving past and students from nearby schools.”

The Medical Examiner’s Officer today confirmed that a 19-year-old Edmonton man died from a stab wound. Investigators are classifying the manner of death as a homicide – Edmonton’s 15th homicide of 2017.

Background:

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a stabbing that sent a male to hospital with life-threatening injuries earlier Tuesday afternoon.

 

Northwest Division patrol officers responded to a transit stop located at the 118th Avenue underpass near the Coliseum Transit Station, after receiving calls from passing motorists for assistance.

 

Upon arrival, police found a complainant male suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds to his upper body allegedly sustained during an altercation with another male.
