Theft from vehicles continue to spike in southwest Edmonton

Residents of southwest Edmonton are being encouraged to take proactive steps to protect their vehicles and personal property, on the heels of another recent spike in theft-from vehicles in the area.

Numerous vehicles and garages were targeted by thieves between May 11 and May 17. Thieves gained entry to many vehicles that were left unlocked, before making off with personal property left inside, including garage door remote openers. From there, the perpetrators are breaching attached and detached garages and stealing more property found inside.

The communities of Belgravia, Mckernan, Garneau, Queen Alexandra, Parkallen, South Terwillegar, and the Hamptons have been hit hard recently. Residents are being asked to be conscientious neighbours and report any suspicious persons and/or vehicles seen in the area. Residents are also encouraged to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables, including garage door remotes, before going inside for the evening.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who has information about this recent rash of break and enters in southwest Edmonton. Anyone with information is asked to call the EPS non-emergency complaint line at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at http://ift.tt/1az8Eve.
