ASIRT investigating EPS in-custody death

At approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 29, 2015, the Edmonton Police Service responded to a trespassing call at a mall in the downtown core. Officers took a 25-year-old male into custody and transported him to Downtown Division at Edmonton Police Service Headquarters.

While in police custody, the man went into medical distress. EMS responded and treated and transported the man to hospital where he subsequently died.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has taken the lead in this investigation.
