Male pedestrian struck, killed on 99 Street

A senior pedestrian has been struck and killed by a vehicle, while reportedly crossing 99 Street this morning on the city’s south side.

Southwest Division patrol members responded to the collision call near 79 Avenue and 99 Street, at approximately 10:18 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015.

Upon arrival, they found a male pedestrian – not a female pedestrian as earlier reported – lying on the road. Paramedics pronounced the senior male, believed to be in his 70s, deceased on scene.

Although the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, witness reports suggest the pedestrian was eastbound and attempting to cross 99 Street at a marked intersection on the north side of 79 Avenue, when he was struck by an oncoming Honda CRV.

Charges have not been laid, at this time, against the male operator of the vehicle.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit has since taken over the scene, and is interviewing witnesses. Investigators are asking other potential witnesses to this morning’s collision to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at http://ift.tt/1az8Eve
