New Year’s shooting suspect turns himself in

On Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, Luqman Jama Osman, 24, wanted for several numerous firearms related offences, turned himself in at downtown division headquarters, accompanied by his lawyer.

Last week, the Edmonton Police Service had asked for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in a non-injury shooting that occurred Jan. 1, 2014 at the Ethiopian-Canadian Community Association.

Background:
At approximately 5 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, Downtown Division officers responded to several reports of shots fired at a New Year's celebration attended by hundreds of people in the area of 105 Avenue and 115 Street.

Police discovered shots had been fired inside the building and outside on 115 Street. Investigations revealed an argument had broken out between several people before shots were fired. There were no injuries reported from the shooting.
