The 30-year-old male was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition.
Investigators have since determined the male was shot inside a residence in the area of 110 Avenue and 101 Street. The suspects fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV believed to be a 2000 to 2006 GMC Yukon, Denali or Chevrolet Tahoe. Police are looking for two males, one female and a fourth suspect who was driving the vehicle.
Investigators are releasing images of two of the suspects and the suspect vehicle in hopes of identifying them.

Around 3 a.m. on November 26, 1994, it was reported to police that an unknown male suspect broke into an apartment in the area of 65 Avenue and 172 Street. The male suspect approached the 28-year-old female resident with a knife, who was asleep in her bed at the time. The suspect then bound the complainant and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to free herself after the suspect left her suite, at which time she contacted police and attended hospital for an examination.
The evidence collected from the complainant’s examination had been considered for forensic testing but was ultimately deemed to be unsuitable for further testing at the time.
In January of this year (2020), the file was reassigned to a Cold Case Sexual Assault investigator for review. In consultation with the RCMP lab, various exhibits were identified as being suitable for DNA testing. The subsequent analysis identified a DNA profile that matched a convicted offender on the National DNA Data Bank.
On Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, Dean Walter Moore, 47, was arrested with the assistance of the Medicine Hat Police Service and is charged with house breaking with intent, sexual assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement and theft under $5,000.
In 2016, the EPS Sexual Assault Section initiated a review of Cold Case Sexual Assault files to identify those that would be suited for further investigation. It was through this process that Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit’s caseload was generated. The Unit’s two detectives are assigned to Historical Crimes and they have the mandate to review the files from their caseload to identify where modern technology or investigative approaches may be able to shed light on a previously unsolved case.
It was reported that in September 2020, a 28-year-old male sent a friend request via Snapchat to an 11-year-old female who was not known to him. The male used the Snapchat user name “likeshacklebolt.”
The two began communicating over Snapchat, and shortly thereafter, they began meeting in person. In October 2020, while driving around with the female in his vehicle, the male allegedly pulled into an alley, sexually assaulted her, then dropped her off at home.
On October 23, 2020, police arrested Kingsley Mayers, 28, and charged him with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, luring a child, indecent exposure to a person under 16 and distribute cannabis to a person under 18 years of age.
Mayers is also known to use the name Craig Alan Golka.

Investigators believe there may be additional complainants, and are encouraging anyone who may have been victimized by Mayers to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Edmonton Police Service investigators became involved in an animal welfare investigation after being contacted by peace officers with the City of Edmonton's Animal Care and Control unit.
It was reported to police that a 45-year-old male was advertising various breeds of puppies for sale online. Following appointments to view the puppies, several prospective buyers lodged formal complaints regarding the animals’ living conditions and overall health.
On Oct. 25, 2020, EPS members and Animal Control peace officers executed a search warrant at the suspect residence near 83 Street and 138 Avenue in northeast Edmonton. Upon arrival, officers found 10 puppies at the address; five dogs living in distress in the garage and another five in the suspect’s residence. Officers noted an overpowering odour of feces and urine emanating from the unheated garage, dogs tethered and covered in urine spots on their bellies, as a result of standing in their own excrement. The animals also appeared dehydrated, as a result of having no water readily available nearby.
Officers subsequently seized 10 dogs: four Border Collie puppies and one Blue Heeler inside the garage and two Yorkshire Terriers, two Shih Tzus and one Chihuahua inside the residence. The animals were transported to the Animal Care and Control Centre where they were to be examined.
Oluseyi Babatunde Farombi, 45, is facing numerous animal cruelty charges under the Criminal Code and Animal Protection Act including cruelty to animals, causing distress to animals, failure to provide adequate shelter and failure to protect from injurious cold.
Police believe there may be other complainants who either purchased sick puppies from Farombi or witnessed the dogs’ living conditions. As such, investigators are encouraging anyone who engaged Farombi for the potential purchase of puppies, at the 138 Avenue address or possibly another residence in northeast Edmonton to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. It was reported to police that on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, the accused and an 18-year-old female complainant met face-to-face at an Edmonton shopping complex, following friendly discussions held on a dating app. It is alleged that on the following day, Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, the young woman agreed to attend the accused male’s residence, where she eventually sexually and physically assaulted.
In the second incident, it is alleged that the same male met a 16-year-old female complainant on a social media app and commenced a friendship. The accused and teen complainant then met face-to-face at the teen’s residence, where it is alleged the accused sexually and physically assaulted her.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, investigators arrested and charged Keenan Wayne Burlaka, 20, of Edmonton, with sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault, forceful confinement, choking to overcome resistance, strangulation, making sexual explicit material available to a child with intent and breach of conditions.
Known as “Greene” and/or “Kai” online, it is alleged that Burlaka uses social media platforms to meet and befriend young, female complainants, before meeting in person and sexually assaulting them.
Investigators are releasing a photo of the accused, as they believe there may be other complainants.
