Police investigating B&E Series in Southeast Division

The Edmonton Police Service is reminding residents to lock all residential garage and primary dwelling doors, on the heels of a recent brazen B&E series across southeast Edmonton.

Southeast Division Detectives are investigating a series of seven over-night residential break and enters that were reported to police between April 24-30, 2019, including four incidents that occurred last evening, Monday, April 29, 2019.

In each of the incidents, suspects gained entry into the complainants’ primary residence through unlocked garages and dwelling doors. Once inside, the suspects quickly located vehicle keys and wallets nearby, before stealing the vehicles.

Neighbourhoods targeted include Lee Ridge, Kameyosek, Weinlos, Laurel, Millbourne and Ellerslie.

Investigators are also concerned given the brazen approach of the intruders, who appear to have walked into the homes while families were sleeping. Several of the stolen vehicles have since been recovered, including a 1999 Acura, a BMW and a Kia Sportage. Police continue to search for a grey Toyota Tundra, Alberta Licence plate #BZC0087 and a white Chevy Cobalt, Alberta Licence plate #BFB5367.

Police charge woman with defrauding local business of more than $5 million over several years

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 54-year-old woman following a lengthy fraud investigation involving several million dollars.

In late 2016, police became aware of some suspicious financial transactions involving a local mechanical business. Upon further investigation, it was determined that approximately 465 cheques, intended to pay the mechanical company’s vendors, were fraudulently cashed into the personal bank accounts of a female employee responsible for the business’ finances at the time. Investigators believe these fraudulent transactions occurred over several years, specifically between 2009 and 2016.

In late 2016, the fraudulent activity was reported to police and following an extensive investigation, detectives from the EPS Economic Crimes Section confirmed that a total of $5,152,179.10 had allegedly been defrauded from the business.

Wanda Dawson, 54, turned herself into EPS Headquarters on Thursday, April 25, 2019, and is charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000 in relation to this investigation.

Dawson is expected to appear in court on June 6, 2019.

ASIRT investigating officer involved shooting

At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, Apr. 30, 2019, Downtown Division officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle being tracked by GPS in the area of 107 Avenue and 106 Street. 

At approximately 7:39 a.m., officers located the stolen vehicle, which was stationary, at 105 Avenue and 100 Street.  Officers pulled up behind the stolen vehicle and confirmed it was the vehicle they had been looking for. Another police vehicle arrived at the location and blocked the stolen vehicle from the front.

 

An unknown male in the passenger seat was directed to exit the vehicle. The male failed to follow direction, moved to the driver’s seat and a confrontation occurred, during which the stolen vehicle was put in motion and officers discharged their firearms. The male subject was struck. EMS treated and transported the male to hospital.

 

No EPS officers were harmed during this incident.

 

The EPS will not be providing further comment, as the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has since taken the lead in this investigation.

Police request public's assistance locating missing woman

The Edmonton Police Service is asking for the public’s help locating a 21-year-old Edmonton woman who has been missing since Saturday morning (April 27, 2019).

Angelique Fielder was last seen at her home in the area of 99 Street and 169 Avenue on the evening of April 26, 2019 and last contacted around 3 a.m. on April 27, 2019.

 

Fielder is described as 5’8” tall, 132 lbs. with shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a black winter coat.

 

 

Fielder functions at a younger age level, and as such, police and family are concerned for her well-being. There are no indications to suggest foul play at this time. She may be travelling by public transit.

Police charge teen in connection to SE bus shelter vandalism spree

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 17-year-old male in connection to an estimated $30,000 vandalism spree involving multiple bus shelters in southeast Edmonton Thursday afternoon.

Southeast Division patrol members responded to a vandalism call from ETS in the communities of Silverberry, Wildrose and Tamarack, at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Thursday, April 25, 2019. Upon arrival, witnesses told police that several teen male suspects driving in a red Honda Civic was allegedly shooting out the glass of bus shelters along Silverberry Road with what appeared to be an airsoft pistol.

Police located the suspect vehicle later that evening, and took a 17-year-old male into custody for questioning. The youth, whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was subsequently charged with one global count of mischief over $5,000.

Investigators believe there were other suspects in the Honda Civic and involved in the vandalism spree. A total of 20 bus shelters were damaged in the southeast communities with repair costs estimated to be more than $30,000.

Police request public’s assistance locating missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is asking for the public’s help locating a 55-year-old Edmonton man who has been missing since Wednesday morning (April 24, 2019).

Steven Richard Watts was last seen at the Royal Alexandra Hospital this morning before he walked away from the area.

 

Watts is described as 5’9” tall, 165 lbs. with short dark hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, an orange jacket and a hospital shirt/gown.

 

 

He may be disoriented and confused, and as such, police are concerned for his well-being. There are no indications to suggest foul play at this time.

Woman succumbs to injuries sustained from multi-vehicle collision

The 28-year-old motorcycle passenger involved in a multi-vehicle collision this weekend succumbed to her injuries yesterday morning.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, Northwest Division officers responded to the report of a serious collision on Anthony Henday Drive, between 111 Avenue and Yellowhead Trail. It was reported that a motorcycle occupied by two females was heading northbound on Anthony Henday Drive, just passing the 111 Avenue exit when the motorcycle began to slow down behind a Ford F-150 and other preceding traffic. As the motorcycle reduced speed, a Ford Econoline cargo van rear ended the motorcycle at a high speed subsequently pushing the motorcycle forward and ejecting both females from the bike. The Ford Econoline cargo van continued to proceed forward through traffic then striking a Nissan Altima, which was initially in front of the Ford F-150 truck.

The 47-year-old female driver of the motorcycle remains in stable condition. No others were injured as a result of this collision.

Investigators from the EPS Traffic Section continue to investigate. No charge(s) have been laid at this time.
