Arrest made in historical homicide

The Edmonton Police Service Historical Crimes Section has charged one man in a 2002 homicide.

On May 9, 2002, police responded to the report of a body that was found under a bed in a home in the area of 99 Street and 86 Avenue. The following day, an autopsy confirmed the deceased male, Michael Thomas Longmore, 59, was the victim of a homicide. At the time, investigators lacked evidence to lay charges.

In January 2019, the EPS Historical Crimes Section opened a review of the file and resubmitted exhibits to the RCMP laboratory for forensic testing. The results of this testing identified a DNA profile that led police to a suspect.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, police arrested Denis Laframboise, 66 and charged him with second degree murder in relation to Longmore’s death.

“This is exactly why we review historical homicide files,” says Staff Sergeant Ryan Tebb with EPS Historical Crimes Section. “While DNA testing at the time wasn’t sophisticated enough to identify a suspect, today’s technology has made it possible to do so, and hopefully bring a sense of resolution to the victim’s family.”

The EPS Historical Crimes Section was established in 2018 and consists of approximately ten officers who investigate historical homicides, missing persons and cold case sexual assaults. The four homicide detectives in the Section currently have a caseload of 202 unsolved homicides dating from 1938 to 2017. A full review of all historical files was initiated when the Section was formed to identify files where modern technology or investigative approaches may be able to shed light on a previously unsolved case.

Police seek public's assistance locating missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 75-year-old male who was last seen yesterday near Light Horse Park. 

Robert McCutchen, 75, was last seen Oct. 15, 2020 at approximately 10 p.m. in the area of 104 Street and 85 Avenue. He is approximately 5’9” tall, weighs 180 lbs, and has white hair and bright blue eyes. He typically wears a blue jacket and jeans, and uses a walker or wheelchair.

Due to his significant mobility issues and the worsening weather, police are concerned for his well-being.

Police charge man in relation to 2019 lodging house death and issue arrest warrant for second accused

Police have charged a 44-year-old man, and have issued an arrest warrant for a 38-year-old man, in relation to the homicide of Michael Rose at a lodging house last year.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, EMS contacted police in relation to the sudden death of a 55-year-old man inside a suite at Dwayne’s Home (formerly located at 10209 100 Avenue). An autopsy took place on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, however further medical examinations were required prior to determining the cause of death. Homicide investigators have since deemed the manner of death as homicide.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, investigators charged Adam Brigden, 44, with second degree murder in relation to Rose’s homicide.

An arrest warrant for second degree murder has also been issued for 38-year-old Adam Hardy in connection to the death. Hardy is described as 6’0" tall, 154 lbs (thin build) with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Autopsy complete, suspect identified in northeast homicide

The Edmonton Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy on the male who was found dead in a residence yesterday morning.

It has been determined that Justin Wade Highet, 34, died from gunshot wounds, and the manner of death is homicide.

Today, Oct. 15, 2020, a warrant for second degree murder was issued for the arrest of Aaron Myles Atchooay, 31, in connection to the death.

Atchooay is presumed to be in the Edmonton area, and police are seeking public assistance in locating him. He is believed to be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, Northeast Division patrol members located a deceased male alone inside a residence in the area of 172 Avenue and 47 Street. The death was determined to be suspicious, and homicide investigators took over the investigation.

Police seek witnesses to vehicle collision involving female pedestrian Tuesday evening on 95 Street

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking witnesses to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred Tuesday evening in the neighbourhood of Westmount.

It was reported to police that on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at approximately 7:35 p.m., a collision occurred between a female pedestrian and a vehicle in the intersection of 107 Avenue and 123 Street.

A 25-year-old woman and her husband were walking southbound across 107 Avenue on the east side of 123 Street.  The vehicle, a 2012 Ford Escape being driven by a 72-year-old woman, was travelling westbound along 107 Avenue and approaching 123 Street in the curb lane. 

The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle in the cross walk within the intersection and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The complainant’s husband was not injured. The female driver remained on scene. Speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in the collision.

EPS would like to speak with any witnesses who may have saw the collision on 107 Avenue Tuesday evening.

Police investigating suspicious death in northeast Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the suspicious death of an adult male that occurred earlier today in northeast Edmonton. Responding to reports received earlier today, Northeast Division patrol members entered a residence in the area of 172 Avenue and 47 Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020.

Upon arrival, officers found a deceased male alone inside the residence. The death is being treated as suspicious, and homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.
