Police seek public's assistance locating missing teen

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 17-year-old male who was last seen this afternoon in southwest Edmonton. 

Tyler Bedient, 17, was last seen today, Oct. 14, 2020 at approximately 4:25 p.m. in the area of Hiller Road and 175 Street. He is described as a Métis male, 6’0”, with a thin build. He is clean shaven with short dark hair, and was last seen wearing black skinny jeans, an all black hoodie and black high top shoes.

As Tyler is not dressed for the weather and his disappearance is out of character, family and police are concerned for his welfare.

Tyler could be in possession of a weapon, and should not be approached. Autopsy complete in Saturday death; detectives seeking tips on suspect vehicle

The Edmonton Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy on a male who died on scene on Oct. 10, 2020.

It has been determined that Jessie Ducharme, 32, died from stab wounds, and the manner of death is homicide.

Detectives are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the blue Lincoln, pictured, in the vicinity of 180 Street and 74 Avenue around 6 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, members found a male lying on the ground outside the complex in medical distress. Despite the life-saving efforts of both officers and paramedics, the male died on scene.

Police investigating suspicious death in southwest Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the suspicious death of an adult male that occurred Saturday evening in southwest Edmonton.

Southwest Division patrol members responded to a call for service at a complex near to 180 Street and 74 Avenue, at approximately 6:40 p.m. yesterday evening, Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020.

Upon arrival, members found a male lying on the ground outside of the complex in medical distress. Despite the life-saving efforts of both officers and paramedics, the male died on scene.

Homicide detectives have since taken over the investigation. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled. No further information is currently available.

Four charged in drug investigation

Three men and one woman are facing multiple drug and weapon charges in connection to a recent EPS Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Unit investigation.

On Oct. 7, 2020, EDGE detectives executed a search warrant at four addresses in the Haddow, Hazeldean, Walker, and Klarvatten neighbourhoods as a result of an ongoing investigation.

During the search, officers uncovered and seized a total of 568 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $28,500; 351 grams of psilocybin valued at approximately $1,970; and 2.5 ounces of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) valued at approximately $75.

Police also seized a 2006 Nissan Murano with a hidden compartment containing drugs, a 2015 Mercedes Benz C400, a .40 calibre handgun, one loaded .40 calibre magazine, one prohibited 22-round magazine, and $232,100 in Canadian currency.

Brandon Tran, 23, Wayne Cheng, 40, Scott Gerke, 23, and Jasmine Rosario-Ng, 23, were arrested and charged with a combined total of 26 charges under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Male facing multiple sexual assault-related charges involving teen girls

The EPS Child Protection Section has arrested and charged a 24-year-old Edmonton man in connection to a pair of sexual assaults involving teen girls alleged to have taken place over the summer.

It was reported to police that the 24-year-old male suspect began communicating with teen girls via the social media Snapchat App beginning in March 2020. Using Snapchat accounts bearing the names “Jamie Dole” and “Caramel Thunder”, the accused would allegedly post messages promising to buy girls various items. In some cases, the suspect would also request nude photographs and videos from the girls in exchange for money.

It is alleged that on Aug. 9, 2020, the accused met a 14-year-old female complainant on Snapchat, then arranged to pick her up near her home. The suspect then took the girl to his west Edmonton residence where he sexually assaulted her.

In a separate incident, the suspect is alleged to have met a 16-year-old female through the app, and sexually assaulted her on two occasions, on July 26 in a vehicle and on Aug. 5, 2020, at his residence.
Aaron Renee Prasad Pal, 24, of Edmonton, is facing multiple charges including: 

• Luring a child under 16 years old
• Sexual assault (x3)
• Sexual interference
• Sexual assault with a weapon
• Invitation to sexual touching
• Obtaining sexual considerations
• Utter threats (x2)
• Unlawful confinement
  

Additional charges may be pending.

EPS and partners conduct sweep of North Saskatchewan shoreline

The Edmonton Police Service and several of its partnering organizations will be conducting a sweep of the North Saskatchewan River shoreline today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, in an effort to locate any unreported/reported missing persons and/or potential human remains

Led by the EPS Missing Persons Unit, this initiative will utilize flight and ground operations from the EPS Flight Operations Section (Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems), RCMP (helicopter), Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, City of Edmonton Park Rangers, as well as the Search and Rescue Dog Association of Alberta.

"This is an initiative that takes place each year when the water levels start to fall," says Sgt. John Smith with the EPS Missing Persons Unit. "This is a proactive deployment that utilizes specialized equipment from EPS and our partners, focusing on the primary river artery that travels throughout our city."

The search commences at the EPS boat launch, located near the EPCOR water treatment facility, and will stretch east and west along the river’s shoreline.

Female youth charged in death of 13-year-old

The EPS Homicide Section has charged a female youth in relation to the death of a 13-year-old female this weekend.

Just after 11 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, police were called to the area of 75 Street and Mount Lawn Road NW on the report of an assault. When officers arrived, they located a female youth with serious injuries. The youth was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics, where she was pronounced deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020.

A female youth has since been charged with second degree murder. As per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be named as she is underage.
