Police continue to investigate suspicious death; autopsy completed

The EPS Homicide Section continues to investigate the death of a 34-year-old man found deceased in a suite over the weekend.

On Saturday, May 9, 2020, at approximately 10:45 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a suite in the area of 107 Avenue and 116 Street, where Mohamed Amin Hassan Jama, 34, was located deceased.

An autopsy was performed on Jama yesterday, Tuesday, May 12, 2020, and while injuries are suspicious in nature, further medical testing is required. Homicide Section continues to treat the death as suspicious.

The EPS and the victim’s family are releasing a photo of Jama to encourage anyone with information about his death to come forward.

Assist to locate: High risk offender wanted on warrants

The Edmonton Police Service has issued arrest warrants for Rodney Gambler, 26, who allegedly breached conditions of his court order.

Gambler is wanted for breach of release order (x3).

He poses a great risk to the public and is considered by police to be a violent and sexually violent offender, most notably while under the influence of any intoxicants.

Gambler is described as being 5’10”, 165 lbs., with dark brown/black hair and brown eyes. He is considered dangerous, is known to carry weapons, and should not be approached.

Deceased male located in suite; Homicide Section investigating

On Saturday, May 9, 2020, at approximately 10:45 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a suite in the area of 107 Avenue and 116 Street. When officers attended the location, a deceased male was located inside a suite.

The EPS Homicide Section has taken the lead of this investigation due to the circumstances. An autopsy is taking place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12, 2020, to determine the cause and manner of death of the deceased. Police do not have anyone in custody.

More information will be forthcoming following the autopsy. No further information is available for release at this time.

Police seek public’s assistance locating missing senior

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 68-year-old missing male who suffers from serious health issues, which if left untreated could be fatal. 

Calvin KADATZ, 68, was last seen walking east from the Capital Care Norwood residence, located at 10410 111 Ave., on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 around 1 p.m.

KADATZ is a white male, 5’9” tall, approximately 145 pounds. He has medium length brown to gray hair and hazel/green eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Police seek public's assistance locating missing senior

The Edmonton Police service is seeking the public’s assistance locating a 71-year-old missing male who suffers from dementia.

Lawrence Isbister, 71, was last seen outside St. Andrew’s church near 128 Street and 111 Avenue on May 5, 2020 at around 7 p.m.

Isbister is a white male who stands 5’9” tall and weighs approximately 200 lbs. He has gray hair, a gray beard and brown eyes. He wears glasses, and was last seen wearing a light gray jacket and denim clothing similar to the items shown in the photo below.

Police investigate bus shelter vandalism, seek tips from the public

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking tips from the public regarding a vandalism spree that resulted in significant damage to more than 40 bus shelters across the city. On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, a citizen reported to police a series of damaged bus shelters located northbound on 142 Street in the area of 91 Avenue. Upon consultation with the City of Edmonton, investigators discovered that 43 shelters had been damaged across the city to date, including 11 bus shelters along 142 Street between 89 Avenue and 121A Avenue, three bus shelters along 87 Avenue between 149 Street and 172 Street, four bus shelters along 109 Street between 65 Avenue and University Avenue and two bus shelters along 82 (Whyte) Avenue between 110 Street and 112 Street.

At this time, officers believe the vandal(s) targeted the bus shelters overnight between Monday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 6, 2020.  All the shelters reportedly had one or more glass panes smashed and total damages have been estimated at approximately $30,000. 

Officers continue to investigate this series and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the vandalism to contact police. Investigators are also asking any vehicle owners or homeowners that live close to a damaged bus shelter and have dash cam or home security video footage that was active during this time period to review their video and contact police if they note any suspicious activity.

Police conclude investigation into March collision involving male youth and school bus

On Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at approximately 8:30 a.m., police responded to the report of a collision involving a school bus and pedestrian. Upon arrival, police located a 12-year-old boy who had been struck by a school bus. The youth was reportedly travelling eastbound across Castle Downs Road NW, at 162 Avenue, in a crosswalk when he was struck by a bus turning left onto Castle Downs Road NW. The 12-year-old was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) has since concluded their investigation into the incident. The male driver was issued a violation for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk under the Traffic Safety Act.

The 12-year-old has been discharged from hospital and continues to recover from his injuries. 

No further information is available.
