Police seek public’s assistance locating missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 33-year-old Edmonton man, who went missing Aug. 2.

Tyrone Tynes, 33, went missing at approximately 2 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2. He was last seen leaving a residence near 110 Marlborough Place and 66 Avenue in southwest Edmonton. It was reported to police that Tynes did not have money, ID, a cell phone or vehicle in his possession, at the time of his disappearance.

He was last seen wearing a grey shirt, grey or blue sweat pants and Nike shoes.

Tyrone has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. His disappearance is considered to be out of character.

Traffic Section investigating fatal rollover

Officers from the EPS’ Major Collision Investigation Section continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal single-vehicle rollover yesterday evening, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019.

Investigators believe a 49-year-old female operating a Hyundai Accent was travelling southwest along 195 Avenue toward Manning Drive, when she lost control of the vehicle. EMS responded to the collision and declared the female deceased on scene.

Officers are still trying to determine what factors may have contributed to this collision. No charges will be laid in this incident.

Edgemont house fire deemed non-criminal

A fire in southwest Edmonton over the weekend has been deemed non-criminal.

Just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) was called to the report of a fire at a house under construction in the area of Edgemont Way and Eifert Crescent. Neighbouring homes and vehicles were also affected by the fire; however, occupants were able to exit their homes and no injuries were reported.

 

Following an investigation, EFRS determined the fire was suspicious and officers with Edmonton Police Service Southwest Division were contacted to assist.

 

After speaking with neighbouring residents, officers learned that two children were seen playing in the home just prior to the fire. A short time later, EPS and EFRS investigators located the children and their parents nearby, and the children admitted that they were playing in the home with a lighter when they accidentally lit a fire.

 

The fire has since been deemed non-criminal and the children will not be identified. The EPS and EFRS will be working with the children and their families to educate them on fire safety.

The EPS and EFRS would like to remind citizens to carefully monitor all fires, recreational or otherwise, as they can quickly become dangerous and devastating.  Educating children on the dangers of fire and keeping lighters, matches and other flammable materials out of reach is also recommended.

Older Hondas and Acuras Targeted in Northeast

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a recent trend in thefts of older model Hondas and Acuras.

The recent rash of incidents has seen 30 Hondas including Civics, CRVs and Acuras older than 2006 stolen from northeast Edmonton since July 1, 2019. While this is a citywide concern, the northeast part of the city, particularly Evansdale, Belle Rive and Killarney, have been the hardest hit areas. Residences just to the south and north of the green belt that runs from 97 Street to 66 Street at approximately 162 Avenue also seem to be getting targeted more frequently.

 

“We believe the suspects are using bicycles to travel along the green belt and are then exiting into the numerous cul de sacs and roadways that link up with that pathway,” says Det. Bryan Macaulay with EPS Northeast Division. “A common tactic is for suspects to ride around in the early hours of the morning, checking door handles for unlocked vehicles and generally looking for vehicles that are easier to steal.”

 

Police are releasing home security footage of a person of interest in one of these incidents to show citizens the kind of suspicious behaviour they should look for. Citizens are asked to contact police if they observe this type of behavior or recognize the individual in the video.

Police lay charges in fatal collision

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 28-year-old male driver in relation to a fatal collision on 41 Avenue SW that took place earlier this year.

Piyush Sharma, 28, was issued a Promise to Appear for dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm (x2). He is expected in court on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.

 

Background

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Sunday, April 14, 2019, Southwest Division officers responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision in the area of 41 Avenue SW and Highway 2.

 

It was reported to police that a 2008 Jeep Wrangler was travelling northbound on the Highway 2 off ramp at 41 Avenue SW when it reportedly failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and struck a 2009 Kia Rio that was allegedly travelling eastbound on 41 Avenue SW on a green light.

EMS responded, treated and transported the three occupants of the Kia Rio to hospital where one of the 24-year-old male passengers was pronounced deceased.  The other occupants of the Rio, a 50-year-old male driver and a second 24-year-old male passenger, suffered non-life threatening injuries. The 28-year-old male driver of the Wrangler reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

 

Alcohol and drugs were not considered factors in this collision.

Police seek public’s assistance locating missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 49-year-old male, who may require immediate medical assistance.

Shane White, 49, was last seen Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at approximately 2 p.m., at his group home near 71 Street and 78 Avenue.

White is a type 1 Diabetic, suffers from Schizophrenia and functions at a low level. He may be severely disoriented and in need of immediate medical attention. He is described as a Caucasian male, 5’7” tall, thin with short, dark hair, who is also visually impaired. He was last seen wearing a black sweater, blue jeans and runners.

White may have large white medical bandages on his left cheek and forehead, covering large open wounds. He also has a history of using meth.

Suspect in 2008 homicide arrested in B.C.

The Edmonton Police Service has arrested and charged a 44-year-old man in connection to the 2008 shooting death of Scott Ladouceur.

Ladouceur, 24 years old at that time of his death, was shot while sitting in a parked vehicle on a road just west of the Evergreen Trailer Park in northeast Edmonton on the evening of July 2, 2008.

Another male sitting in the back seat of the vehicle identified as Marlon Williams, 22 years old at that time, also sustained multiple gun-shot wounds, but survived. The female driver was able to avoid being shot, and fled the scene, driving the two males to a nearby medical centre, where Ladouceur was pronounced deceased.

Believed to be drug related, Ladouceur’s shooting death was the city’s 14^th homicide in 2008.

The primary suspect in the case, Theodore (‘Ted’) Gordon ALLARD, 44, was recently discovered residing in B.C.’s Fraser Valley, and was arrested and charged with first degree murder and attempted murder.

Allard, who was 33 years old at the time of the shooting incident, was brought back to Edmonton yesterday, Wednesday, July 31, 2019, where he remains in custody. No further information regarding the investigation is being released at this time, as the case in now before the courts.

The accused’s next court date is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9^th.

Background:
EPS Homicide Section detectives investigated the shooting in northeast Edmonton at 9:54 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

It was reported to police that a female driver dropped off two men in their 20s at a north-side clinic, after they were shot while sitting in their vehicle in the area of 167 Avenue and 18 Street, just west of the Evergreen Trailer Park. The two male victims were known to police. An autopsy undertaken in July 2008 confirmed that Ladouceur died from multiple gun-shot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.
