Police investigating fatal hit-and-run collision

The EPS Traffic Section is investigating a hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of an 88-year-old man.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. yesterday, Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, Downtown Division Patrol officers responded to a pedestrian collision in the area of 106 A Avenue and 97 Street.

 

It was reported to police that an elderly male pedestrian was crossing from the east side to the west side of 97 Street at 106 A Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a white 2013 Nissan NV2500 van travelling southbound on 97 Street. Witnesses reported that the van did not stop at the scene of the collision and continued travelling southbound on 97 Street.

 

EMS responded, treated and transported the 88-year-old male to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

 

Following a search of the area, officers located the damaged, unoccupied van in the area of 97 Street and 106 Avenue.

 

EPS Major Collision Investigations Section continues to investigate and is asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the EPS.

 

“Traffic travelling northbound on 97 Street stopped for the pedestrian,” says Sgt. James McLeod with the EPS Major Collision Investigations Section. “We would like to speak to the drivers who stopped and encourage them to contact us as soon as possible.”

Public information and warning: Violent offender released

In the interest of public safety, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is issuing the following warning: Jared Soosay, 22, is a convicted violent offender, including sexual violence, and the EPS has reasonable grounds to believe he will commit another violent offence against someone while in the community.

Soosay will be residing in the Edmonton area.  The Edmonton Police Service is seeking a recognizance order on Soosay, and he will be monitored by the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit.

 

Soosay’s risk of offending behavior increases significantly if under the influence of intoxicants.

Soosay has been placed on a series of court ordered conditions including:

 

• He must abide by a curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

• He must not purchase, possess or consume any alcoholic beverages. Must not consume or possess any drug listed in the schedules of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including cannabis.

• He must not possess any drug paraphernalia (pipes of any kind, e-cigarettes, bongs, cigarette papers, syringes).

• He must not be in any licensed premises other than a dining room for the sole purpose of having a meal. Must not attend at any liquor store.

• He must not travel out of the City of Edmonton without written approval.

• He must not be in possession of weapons of any kind, including knives (except in his residence or at a restaurant for the sole purpose of consuming a meal).

• He must not enter into a dating, intimate, sexual relationship with any person, or have any friendships with females until their identities have been disclosed and they have been informed of his previous offending.

Police investigating suspicious death in northeast Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the suspicious death of a male in northeast Edmonton.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. yesterday, Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, Northeast Division officers responded to the report of an assault in the area of 108 Avenue and 31 Street.

 

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 56-year-old male.

 

EMS responded, treated and transported the male to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

 

Homicide Section is investigating. 

 

An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.

 

No further information is being released at this time.

Man charged with sexual assault; police seek additional complainants

The Edmonton Police Service has charged Vincent Noseworthy, 39, in connection to a sexual assault and believes there may be additional complainants.

On Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, an adult female reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by a male, identified as Vincent Noseworthy, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018.

 

The female reportedly met Noseworthy, who she became acquainted with through Tinder, for a date. The two then drove to a rural location outside of Edmonton in the female’s vehicle where Noseworthy allegedly confined her and violently sexually and physically assaulted her.

 

Noseworthy was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 and has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, choking with the intent to overcome resistance, assault and unlawful confinement. He has since been released on conditions.

 

Noseworthy is active on online dating websites and may use the name “Vinnie Worth.”  As a result, investigators believe there may be additional complainants and are concerned that he may commit another offence against someone while in the community.

 

In the interest of public safety, police are releasing a photo of Noseworthy and are encouraging any additional complainants to come forward.

• He must reside at a specified address

• He must abide by a curfew of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily

• He must not have any contact, directly or indirectly, with the victim of his offence

• He must not purchase, possess or consume any alcoholic beverages or consume or possess any drugs, any prescription drugs not prescribed or any other intoxicating substances.

• He must not possess any weapons, including knives (except in a residence or restaurant for the sole purpose of consuming a meal).

Police seek public's assistance locating missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is asking for the public’s help locating a missing 34-year-old man.

Derek Carter, 34, was last seen at his residence on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 in the area of 117 Avenue and 127 Street. Carter was reported missing by his family on Monday, Oct. 29.

 

Carter is described as a male with green eyes and brown hair. He is 6’0” tall and weighs approximately 200 lbs.

 

 

Missing: Derek Carter, 34

Carter’s disappearance is considered to be out of character, and as a result, there are concerns for his well-being. There are no indications to suggest foul play.

Extensive EDGE investigation culminates with drug-related charges against man and woman

An extensive police investigation has culminated with the arrest and multiple drug-related charges being laid against a man and woman in connection to a drug “stash pad” in southeast Edmonton.

The EPS Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement Unit (EDGE) launched the investigation in the spring of 2018, after intelligence led them to a condominium near Edwards Drive and 91 Street.

On Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, EDGE investigators executed a search warrant at the condominium and at the full-time residence of the accused in southwest Edmonton. Approximately $127,000 in cocaine (862 gms), crack cocaine (407.9 gms), methamphetamine (1009 gms), buffing agent (9,453 gms) and more than $9,300 in cash were seized from the two locations. Drug manufacturing equipment was also seized from the “stash pad”. 

A Honda Ridgeline with two sophisticated hidden compartments was also seized as part of the investigation.

Investigators believe the condominium was strictly being used as a “stash pad”, where the accused were allegedly converting cocaine into crack cocaine through processing.  The unfurnished condo was not occupied.

 

Brandon Tran, 21, and Jasmine Rosario Ng, 21, of Edmonton, are facing multiple charges.

Tran is charged with the following:
– Possession of controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x 4)

– Produce a controlled substance

– Possess a controlled substance

– Proceeds of Crime exceeding $5,000 

– Breach of Recognizance (x 2)

 

Rosario-Ng is charged with the following:

– Possession of controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x 4)

– Produce a controlled substance

– Possess a controlled substance
– Proceeds of Crime exceeding $5,000

36-year-old male arrested in sexual assault series

The Edmonton Police Service has arrested and charged a male in connection to a series of sexual assaults that reportedly occurred in north Edmonton between May and October of this year.

Two separate assaults were reported on May 16, 2018 in the Newton area, and a third was reported in the Beverly area on July 15, 2018. Following these three assaults, EPS issued a news release asking for public assistance to identify a suspect, vehicle and trailer of interest captured on security cameras.

 

On Oct. 12, 2018, two more assaults were reported in the Kensington neighbourhood. At that time, it was not yet clear whether these incidents were related to the May and July occurrences.

 

In each case, the suspect reportedly ran up behind a young female during daylight hours, groped her, then fled. In one case, the suspect tackled the female complainant to the ground and held her down.

 

As a result of an ongoing investigation and witness evidence, police were able to identify and locate the suspect. On Oct. 24, 2018, James Edward Shaw, 36, was arrested in Ardrossan with the assistance of RCMP and charged with five counts of sexual assault.
