A 35-year-old Edmonton man is facing 119 charges for a series of liquor store robberies that commenced in mid-August. Edmonton Police Service Robbery Section detectives have been investigating a series of eight liquor store robberies that were reported to police between Aug. 12th and Sept. 15th, 2018.
In the most recent incident, which occurred Saturday evening, Aug. 15th, at a liquor store near 150 Street and the Yellowhead, a male suspect is alleged to have demanded money from a clerk, before fleeing the store with liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was eventually arrested and taken into custody by EPS Tactical Unit members at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday, outside of a liquor store in the Mayfield Common area in west Edmonton.
Atoy Gordon, 35, of Edmonton, was found to be in possession of a handgun (pellet gun) and a stun gun at the time of his arrest.
Atoy is facing a lengthy list of charges including robbery, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of an imitation weapon, weapon prohibition offences and multiple breach of condition charges for previous offences committed across Canada.

Elderly female motorist succumbs to injuries from multi-vehicle collision
An elderly woman has succumbed to injuries sustained during a multi-vehicle collision that occurred in southwest Edmonton back on Aug. 3, 2018. Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) continues to investigate the collision, which saw an 86-year-old female motorist sustain life-threatening injuries, after the 1996 Toyota Tercel she was driving collided with several parked vehicles in southwest Edmonton.
The motorist’s vehicle was travelling northbound on 109 Street and approaching 29 Avenue, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, when she failed to negotiate the curving road, before colliding with the parked vehicles.
Investigators believe the elderly motorist was driving at such a high rate of speed that the impact with the Ford F150 then created a chain of collisions with two other vehicles parked in front, including a 2016 Toyota Scion and a 2018 Nissan Sentra.
Thankfully, all three parked vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the collision.
The elderly motorist was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics with life-threatening injuries, at that time. The woman eventually succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 17, 2018.

Shooting suspect arrested, charged with attempted murder
The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 29-year-old male with various offences including attempted murder in connection to an early-morning shooting Wednesday in downtown Edmonton.

Mustafe Rashid, 29, is accused with shooting a 28-year-old male complainant during a dispute at a suite near 98 Avenue and 103 Street, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. The complainant was treated and transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Rashid was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at a residence on the Onion Lake Reserve in Saskatchewan. RCMP members from Onion Lake, Turtleford and Maidstone, Sask. detachments all assisted in the arrest.
Edmonton Police Service investigators have also charged Rashid with aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.

Police investigating fatal collision in southeast Edmonton
The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that took place in a Millwoods neighbourhood this morning, Friday, Sept. 14, 2018.

It was reported to police that a Suzuki motorcycle was travelling southbound on Millwoods Road when it was struck by a dark blue GMC Terrain travelling northbound that had reportedly crossed the centre line.
EMS responded; however, the 58-year-old female driver of the motorcycle succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The 45-year-old male driver of the Terrain did not sustain any injuries.
EPS Major Collision Investigations Section continues to investigate.

Homicide Section charges four males in relation to shooting death
The EPS Homicide Section has laid charges against four males in relation to the death of Abdi Ladif Hirsi, 27, who was shot to death last month.

Hashim Abdulkadir Mohamed, 24, Samatar Mohiadin, 20, Amiir Hussen, 20 and Mohamod Mohamod, 18 are each charged with first-degree murder in relation to this homicide.
“We would like to thank the citizens of Edmonton, as well as the local media for their assistance with this investigation,” says Staff Sgt. Bill Clark with the EPS Homicide Section. “Tips and information from the public ultimately led to the arrests of these four individuals.”
The EPS Homicide Section and Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Unit continues to investigate.
No further information is available at this time.
Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS decided to release the name of the deceased as it serves an investigative purpose.
Background
At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, police received numerous reports of gunfire in the area of 162 Avenue and 51 Street. Upon arrival, Northeast Division officers located a deceased male inside a vehicle who appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018 and determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds. The manner of death was deemed homicide.

Police seeking information related to ATM theft

At approximately 5:15 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, West Division officers responded to a report of a theft at a business in the area of 93 Avenue and 215 Street.
It was reported to police that a white pick-up truck drove into the business’ front doors. Two suspects then allegedly exited the truck and used it to remove an ATM from its foundation inside the business. The suspects then reportedly fled the parking lot heading southbound toward Suder Greens Dr.
Investigators have since recovered video footage from the area and are releasing a photo of a truck that they believe may be linked to the theft.
The truck, pictured below, is described as a mid-2000s white Chevrolet Silverado with a canopy.

Over 3,300 traffic violations issued during “Big Ticket Event”
Edmonton Police Service officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement handed out a total of 3,331 traffic violations last week during Operation 24 Hours.

The 24-hour enforcement period took place on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. Of the total 3,331 traffic violations, 2,507 were solely related to speed. There were also 824 violations for seatbelt infractions, distracted driving and other Traffic Safety Act violations. Much of the enforcement was conducted in playground zones around schools.
“Now that students are back in school we will focus some of our enforcement to designated school zones,” says acting Staff Sergeant Kerry Bates with the EPS Traffic Section. “As always, we encourage motorists to drive with care, slow down and be mindful of your surroundings.”
The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
