Homicide Section investigating death of male involved in LRT stabbing

A 19-year-old Edmonton man died in hospital earlier tonight, as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Coliseum LRT Station in northwest Edmonton.

Homicide Section detectives have now taken over the investigation, which remains ongoing at this time.

An autopsy has not yet been scheduled. No further information will be available, at this time, until autopsy results have been confirmed and released to investigators.

Background:

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a stabbing that sent a male in his early 20s to hospital with life-threatening injuries earlier this afternoon.

 

Northwest Division patrol officers responded to a transit stop located at the 118th Avenue underpass near the Coliseum Transit Station, after receiving calls from passing motorists for assistance.

 

Upon arrival, police found a complainant male suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds to his upper body allegedly sustained during an altercation with another male.

 

Paramedics treated and transported the male to hospital where he is now undergoing surgery.

Police request public’s assistance in locating 34-year-old missing man

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an Edmonton man who has been missing since April 13, 2017.

Timothy Trinh, 34, was reported missing to the EPS after his family became concerned that he had not returned home.  Trinh was last seen in the area of 95 Street and 162 Avenue. He is described as being an Asian male, 6’0”, 150lbs, short black hair with receding hair line, glasses and wearing a black spring jacket. He is not dressed for the current weather conditions.  

TRINH’s disappearance is out of character, and as a result, there are concerns for his well-being. There are no indications to suggest foul play, at this time.

Family of 2016 homicide victim makes emotional plea for information

The family of Kelly Thompson came forward today to make a public plea for information they hope will lead homicide detectives to the suspects who beat their beloved brother and son to death on April 14th, 2016.

“Kelly was my childhood playmate….the sweet, nurturing brother I grew up with playing in the forest north of Stony Plain…the brother who I caught frogs with to frighten our mom….the brother I spent weeks building forts with….was gone,” said Kim Thompson, devastated by the death of her brother who was murdered almost one year ago today, the result of a vicious assault by several baseball bat-wielding suspects.

“The loss of my brother has absolutely devastated our entire family. Not only have we dealt with his sudden death, but we also have to deal on a daily basis with the absolute horrific events my brother endured in his final moments…and our final moments with him.”

 

On Thursday, Apr. 14, 2016, at around 10 p.m., West Division officers were called to the area of 137 Street and 115 Avenue, after a man was located in critical condition. It was reported that approximately four or five suspects, wearing dark clothing and hoods, got out of a vehicle and allegedly struck a man multiple times with baseball bats and then fled the area in a vehicle.

 

Kelly Thompson, 34, of Edmonton, died in hospital on Saturday, Apr. 16, 2016, as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.  

 

“I am absolutely convinced there is someone out there with information about my brother’s death, someone who has a conscience….who has a heart,” said Kim Thompson, becoming emotional.

 

“Someone who has been living with this information, who one year later, may be ready to come forward to police or call Crime Stoppers anonymously. I would ask that you stop for one moment….and consider our pain….consider what it would be like to lose your brother, or your son, so suddenly….and so violently.”

“These people didn't just take one person’s life…..they destroyed many lives.”

Police seek owners of recovered stolen property

Northwest Division officers are seeking the original owners of some stolen property that was seized during a warrant execution last month.

On Mar. 23, 2017 the Northwest Division Special Project Team executed a search warrant for stolen property at a residence in the area of 117 Street and 114 Avenue. Officers seized a variety of stolen items, along with small quantities of drugs, counterfeit money production equipment and counterfeit bills.

 

Several of the seized items are posted on the EPS Pinterest page in hopes that the original owner(s) will come forward to claim them. These items include a wheel alignment machine, a painting, a road bike and a snow blower.

     

   

  

No charges have been laid to date. Police continue to investigate.

Police seek witnesses to assault

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking witnesses to an assault that occurred in northwest Edmonton last week.

It was reported that the alleged assault took place the afternoon on Tuesday, Mar. 28, 2017 between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the area of 117 Avenue and 82 Street. The 64-year-old male attended a liquor store and convenience store in the area and walked back to his residence. Police believe he was assaulted in an alleyway in the area of 117 Avenue between 82 and 85 Street while walking home.

 

When he arrived home, a family member treated his injuries. At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday Mar. 29, 2017, the male experienced a medical episode. EMS responded to his residence, treated and transported him to hospital where he remains with life-threatening injuries. Later that day, police were notified of the complainant's injuries by a local hospital and started to investigate. 

  

The male complainant is described as Caucasian, 5’9” tall, with a thin build and brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a white and black hoodie, a dark blue t-shirt with the word “Jasper” on the front and a black backpack.

On Friday, Apr. 7, 2017 at approximately 11 a.m., Southwest Division officers, alongside Edmonton Fire Rescue, responded to the report of an explosion and subsequent fire in a residence in the area of 121 Street and 16 Avenue SW.

 

A deceased male was discovered in the house. The death appears to be non-criminal at this time.

 

Police continue to investigate.

Police seize more than $17,000 in drugs and $14,000 in cash

The Edmonton Police Service Downtown Division arrested a male in relation to a search warrant that was conducted on a residential suite after a landlord alerted the police of suspicious activity.

On Thursday, Apr. 6, 2017, police executed a search warrant around 2:30 p.m. in the area of 97 Avenue and 106 Street. While police were at the suite, the resident returned and was arrested. In total, more than $17,000 worth of drugs and $14,000 in cash was seized.

 

The suspect had drugs, cash and cell phones in his possession at the time of the arrest which included:

• 6.7 g of crack cocaine with an approximate street value of $677.

• 1.4g of hydrochloride cocaine with an approximate street value of $142.

• 0.35g of heroin with an approximate street value of $400.

• $745 in Canadian currency.

• Four cell phones.

The search of the residence yielded more drugs and cash including:

• 42g of methamphetamine with an approximate street value of $4,220.

• 43g of crack cocaine with an approximate street value of $4,306.

• 24g of hydrochloride cocaine with an approximate street value of $2,422.

• 13g of heroin with an approximate street value of $5,504.

• $14,080 in Canadian currency.

Jascaron Dusnage, 27, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5) and proceeds of crime (x2).
