The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the first traffic fatality of 2017.
On Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, police responded to a two vehicle collision just after 3:10 p.m. in the area of 144 Avenue and Ebbers Boulevard. It was reported that a 2003 Toyota Corolla was travelling southbound on Ebbers Boulevard and attempting to turn eastbound onto 144 Avenue at a stop sign when it was allegedly struck by a 2016 Ford F150 that was travelling westbound.
EMS responded, treated and transported the 43-year-old male driver of the Toyota Corolla to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The 47-year-old male driver of the Ford F-150 sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Police do not believe that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are factors in this collision.
EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.

The Edmonton Police Service invites all brave Edmontonians to join us and many other local enforcement agencies as we start the New Year off with a splash — into Lake Summerside for Special Olympics Alberta.
Every year, the Edmonton Police Service proudly participates in the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Polar Plunge at Lake Summerside. This year, over 200 plungers have registered, including the Edmonton Police Service’s very own Deputy Chief, Brian Simpson.
“Jumping into freezing wintery water is nothing compared to the challenges many Special Olympics athletes face every day of their lives. Every plunger who endures a few moments of cold will help an Alberta Special Olympic athlete achieve their goals,” explains Constable Amanda Trenchard. “It’s a unique act to raise awareness and support for a great cause.”
This year, plungers are asked to raise $75 each to help the LETR reach their Alberta-wide fundraising goal of $250,000. You can still register for the Plunge and walk-in plungers are welcome! If you’re not a fan of the freezing waters, you can show your support from the warmth of your home and donate to a “plunger” or the event itself.
The event is free to the public and we encourage fans, families and observers to witness the action and excitement. The Polar Plunge Edmonton will have skating, snowshoeing, marshmallow roasting and more available during the day for free or with a donation.

Each year the LETR hosts fundraising events. The money raised gives Special Olympians opportunities to train and compete in a variety of sports. Founded in 1981, the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) aims to increase awareness of Special Olympics and ensures that sporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities can continue in various cities, including Edmonton.

Edmonton’s Medical Examiner has completed the autopsies on two individuals found deceased in their residence in southwest Edmonton on Jan. 17, 2017.
A 59-year-old female died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police have deemed the manner of death a homicide.
A 74-year-old male also died as a result of a gunshot wound. Police have deemed the manner of death to be non-criminal.
The woman’s death is the fourth homicide in Edmonton in 2017.
This investigation is concluded and no charges will be laid.
Homicide Section will not be releasing the names of the two deceased.
Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided not to release the names of the deceased in this investigation for the following reasons: it does not serve an investigative purpose and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.
Background
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, a concerned individual known to the couple went to check on their welfare and contacted police. Officers responded to the residence in the area of Riverbend Road and Terwillegar Drive just after 7 p.m. Upon arrival, police found a deceased adult male and a deceased adult female.
Edmonton Police Service Homicide Detectives have arrested and charged a man in relation to a homicide on March 28, 2016.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016, West Division officers were dispatched to an apartment suite located at 114 Avenue and 132 Street after a report of a deceased female being found in an apartment suite.
Shane Elson Lambert, 49, has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of Lisa Kristine Randhawa, 42, who died as a result of trauma.
With assistance from Grand Prairie RCMP, Lambert was located on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, and arrested and charged without incident. He was transported to Edmonton yesterday (Jan. 18) and remanded.
The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is releasing video footage of two vehicles of interest in connection to the homicide of William John Patterson, 37, who was shot to death in his home last year.
At approximately 4:55 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, Southwest patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint near Chappelle Drive and Claxton. When officers arrived, they located Patterson who had sustained gunshot wounds. He was treated and transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have identified two vehicles of interest which were in the area at the time of the homicide and are looking to the public for assistance in identifying the vehicles and driver(s).
The first vehicle of interest is believed to be an older, white Mazda3 with a sunroof and distinct Continental ContiSportContact 5 SSR tires (photos and video below).

The second vehicle of interest is believed to be a dark-coloured, Chevrolet Malibu. The Malibu came into the Chapelle area and picked up a male from a home which was under construction at the time (photos and video below).
The male who was picked up from the home under construction is described as a middle-aged man in his mid-to-late 30s, with an olive skin tone. He stands approximately 6’0” tall, with a slim build and was wearing white sneakers, blue jeans, a dark hoodie and a construction vest at the time. Homicide detectives are hoping to speak with this man, who is considered to be a person of interest in this investigation.

Edmonton Police Service Homicide Detectives are asking two witnesses, who they believe were present at a scene and have information about the incident, to contact police.
On Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, the EPS received a report of a deceased man in a home at 143 Avenue and 34 Street. Homicide Detectives took over the investigation later that morning and the death is being treated as suspicious.
“It’s important that we speak with these two key witnesses, a man and a woman, who we believe have information about what happened,” says Staff Sgt. Colin Derksen, of Homicide Section.
An autopsy was completed by the Medical Examiner on Monday (Jan. 16, 2017) but the results cannot be released as the manner of death is still to be determined.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
