Southwest detectives investigate vehicle vandalism spree

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a vandalism spree in southwest Edmonton that saw the tires on 26 vehicles slashed over the weekend.

Between midnight and 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, a total of 26 vehicles were targeted in a parkade near 46 Avenue and 106A Street.

In many of the cases, vandals reportedly slashed all four tires on the vehicles, during the early-morning hours Saturday.

Man dies in hospital after vehicle collides with building

The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a fatal single vehicle collision that occurred in downtown Edmonton at approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning (Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016).

It is reported a Toyota Corolla was travelling eastbound on 104 Avenue when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane, struck a barricade and collided with a condominium building at 104 Avenue and 105 Street.

The driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his 50s, was treated and transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A medical episode may have been a factor in the collision.

The man was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Police do not believe anyone else was injured as a result of the collision. 

Traffic on 104 Avenue between 104 Street and 106 Street was shut down for a few hours as the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene.

Autopsy results confirm man died from gunshot wounds

The Edmonton Medical Examiner has confirmed that a 30-year-old Edmonton man died from gunshot wounds Friday, Oct. 7, 2016.

Autopsy results released earlier today confirm that Phu Phan, 30, died from multiple gunshot wounds with the manner of death being a homicide. 

Investigators believe Phan was shot to death Friday morning while sitting in a vehicle parked outside of a residence in northwest Edmonton.  

Witnesses told police a small blue SUV or minivan was spotted leaving the scene just after 7:30 a.m.

This is the Edmonton’s 35^th homicide of 2016.

Northwest Division patrol members responded to a weapons complainant at a northwest Edmonton address, where neighbours reported hearing shots being fired.

Upon arrival, police found a male on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

The male was pronounced deceased on scene, despite efforts by paramedics to revive him.

Traffic Section investigating fatal collision on Anthony Henday Drive

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) is investigating a collision that occurred early this morning on Anthony Henday Drive

At approximately 6:50 a.m. today (Oct. 7, 2016), Southwest Division officers responded to a collision involving two pick-up trucks in the NB lanes of the Anthony Henday Drive, between the Lessard and Terwillegar Drive exits.  

It’s reported that a Dodge Ram pick-up truck travelling southbound, crossed the median into the northbound lanes and collided with a Ford F150 pick-up truck travelling in the northbound lanes. The 31-year-old driver of the Ford pick-up truck was treated by EMS but was pronounced dead in hospital.

The 44-year-old driver of the Dodge truck has unknown injuries and was taken to hospital as well.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.

MCIU investigators are seeking more witnesses to the collision.

Police invesigate shooting death of man in northwest Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning near 171 Avenue and 126 Street in northwest Edmonton.

While details remain preliminary at this time, Northwest Division patrol members responded to a weapons complainant at a northwest Edmonton address, where neighbours reported hearing shots being fired.

Upon arrival, police found a male on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

The male has since been pronounced deceased on scene, despite efforts by paramedics to perform CPR.

Homicide Section detectives have since taken over the investigation.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a blue minivan that witnesses saw fleeing the crime scene.

Police investigating shooting in SE Division

EPS Southeast Division officers are investigating a shooting which was reported to police just after 7 a.m. this morning (Oct. 6, 2016).

Staff at a coffee shop in the area of 75 Street and 101 Avenue called 911 when an injured male, believed to be in his mid-30s, entered the store to ask for help. The complainant reported to police that he was at a friend’s residence less than a block away, when three masked men came into the home and allegedly shot him. EMS responded, treated the man and rushed him to hospital. His injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening. .

EPS Tactical Section secured and cleared a home on the same block as the coffee shop. No one was found inside the residence. Police continue to investigate and search for the suspects.

Autopsy completed in last homicide

Edmonton’s Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy on a man who was shot during a home invasion on McConachie Blvd. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. It has been confirmed that Omar Terrence Albert, 23, died from a gunshot. Homicide Detectives continue to investigate.

Background:

The EPS Homicide Section is investigating an early morning home invasion that resulted in one man being shot and a husband and wife severely beaten.

Detectives believe the McConachie Blvd. residence was wrongfully targeted.

EPS Northeast Division patrol officers responded to a home on McConachie Blvd. at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2016 on reports of a break and enter and aggravated assault.

Investigations revealed that the husband and wife, who were home at the time of the break in, were tied up, blindfolded and severely assaulted after demands were made for drugs and money. It was reported to police shortly after the break in that shots were fired in the residence.

When officers arrived on scene they found a male, who appeared to have been shot, in the basement of the home.

The male who had been shot was treated and taken to hospital by EMS, where he passed away later this morning. The husband remains in hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A residence next door, which is known to police, is also being investigated as part of this file. Homicide Detectives continue to investigate and are releasing descriptions of two suspects in relation to the shooting:

Suspect #1: A black male, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall, early to mid-20s, clean shaven, slim build, wearing a dark Hoody and darker jeans, and dark gloves. The male was also wearing dark, round, thick-rimmed eye glasses.

Suspect #2: A male with a short beard, approximately 5’10” to 5’11” tall, late 20s, with a stalky or heavier build, wearing a dark Hoody and sweat pants.

Both suspects are described as speaking with an accent or in broken English.
