EPS investigates fatal quad collision

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a traffic fatality involving a quad that was reported earlier this morning.

On Friday, July 8, 2016, the Edmonton Police Service received a call from a citizen who located a deceased male in the area of 184 Street and 137 Avenue.

Police believe the deceased male was operating a quad in a closed section of 184 Street northbound when it collided with a concrete jersey barrier.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in this collision.

The time and circumstances of the collision are still being investigated.

Suspect shot and killed during armoured truck robbery

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the shooting death of an alleged male suspect in connection with an early-morning armed robbery of armoured truck guards in southeast Edmonton.

Southeast Division members responded to a robbery call at a financial institution near 25 Avenue and Hewes Way, at approximately 12:45 a.m. this morning, Friday, July 8, 2016.

Upon arrival officers found a deceased male lying on the ground nearby. It is alleged that two robbery suspects approached the guards, pepper sprayed them and demanded cash from the guards.

It is alleged that one of the guards then discharged his firearm killing one of the two suspects. A second suspect remains at large at his time.

The two guards were treated on scene for pepper spray, but were otherwise physically unharmed.

Homicide and Robbery Section detectives continue to investigate.

Police release comp sketch of indecent exposure suspect

The Edmonton Police Service is releasing a composite sketch of a suspect who allegedly exposed himself to two women in June.

On Friday, June 17, 2016, police responded to a report of an indecent act that occurred around 7:30 a.m. It was reported that a male in a blue 4-door vehicle exposed himself in the area of 112 Street and 99 Avenue while he was asking a woman for directions. The woman left the area immediately and called police.

At 4 p.m., police received another complaint about an indecent exposure that occurred at 7:40 a.m. in the same area. As the incidents reported occurred just 10 minutes apart, police believe they are looking for one suspect.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, between 20 to 30 years of age, 5’10” tall with an average build. He had scruffy facial hair, and brown hair. He was wearing jeans and a dark shirt.

Major Collision Unit investigating motorcyclist fatality

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a traffic fatality involving a motorcyclist in downtown Edmonton Tuesday evening.

Downtown Division patrol members were dispatched to Bellamy Hill near 99 Avenue at approximately 8:50 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016, after receiving a traffic collision call.

Witnesses told police two motorcycles were travelling northbound up Bellamy Hill, when one of the drivers lost control of his motorcycle on a stretch of Bellamy Hill that curves left.

Paramedics treated and transported one male driver to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.

Major Collision investigators would like to speak to the second motorcycle driver, who left the scene prior to the arrival of officers, or any other witnesses that may have information about this collision.

Manslaughter charge laid; Police search for two additional suspects in relation to February death

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a woman with manslaughter in relation to the February 2016 death of 47-year-old man who passed away after sustaining injuries in a 2015 assault.

On March 18, 2015, Edmonton Police Service officers were called to an apartment suite in the area of 100 Avenue and 114 Street at approximately 7:15 p.m. Police responded and located a man, Warren Todd McLeod, 47, unconscious on the apartment floor. He was treated and transported to hospital.

Investigation determined the man was allegedly assaulted by a woman known to him, Joelle Marie Reich, two days before police were called to the apartment. Charges were not laid against her at the time.

On February 3, 2016, Warren McLeod succumbed to injuries he allegedly sustained during the March 2015 assault. The Edmonton Medical Examiner determined he died from complications of blunt force head injuries, and the EPS Homicide Section took over the ongoing investigation.

Joelle Reich, 47, was arrested without incident on June 29, 2016 and charged with manslaughter, causing death by criminal negligence and failing to provide necessaries of life.

Detectives believe two other males were involved with the March 2015 assault on McLeod. The EPS Homicide Section continues to investigate.

This is Edmonton’s 26^th homicide of 2016.

Pedestrian deceased after collision in parking lot

A 50-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in north Edmonton.

Just after 2 p.m. today (Saturday, July 2, 2016) a 32-year-old female driver of a Ford Escape stopped in a five-way stop sign marked intersection in a parking lot located at 135 Street and 137 Avenue. The driver had stopped to allow a 50-year-old female pedestrian to cross, who was walking in the parking lot.

At the same time, a 79-year-old male driver of a Kia Sportage proceeded through the intersection, striking the Ford Escape from behind, which caused the Kia to accelerate across a curb and rock median where it struck the 50-year-old female pedestrian, driving over top of her.

The female pedestrian was treated by EMS and taken to hospital where she was pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. Neither driver suffered any injury. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Charges are pending against the 79-year-old male driver of the Kia.
