Man struck in crosswalk succumbs to injuries; charges laid against driver

A 70-year-old man who was struck in a marked crosswalk in southeast Edmonton last week has died.

At around 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, Apr. 7, 2016, a 70-year-old male was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 48 Street and Millwoods Road. At the same time, a middle-aged man, driving a GMC 3500 Van, was conducting a left turn (northbound) onto 48 Street when he struck the pedestrian.

On Sunday, Apr. 10, 2016, the 70-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Branch has charged the driver, Robert Eugene Labonte, 60, with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failing to obey a stop sign before entering an intersection under the Traffic Safety Act.

This is Edmonton’s 10^th traffic fatality of the year.

Man found dead in city’s west end declared homicide

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy yesterday, on a man found dead in a field early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Apr. 10, 2016, at around 8:30 a.m., West Division officers were called to the area of Stony Plain Road and Winterburn Road, after a man’s body was discovered in a field north of the 215 Street traffic ramp.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed that Brad Macdonald, 37, of Nova Scotia died as a result of blunt force trauma. Homicide Section has determined the manner of death as being homicide.

This is the city’s 13^th homicide of the year. Homicide Section continues to investigate. No further information is available at this time.

Police investigate suspicious death in west Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is investigating the death of a man who was found in a field yesterday in west Edmonton.

Police investigating after man found dead in alley

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is investigating a suspicious death that occurred overnight in northwest Edmonton.

On Friday, Apr. 8, 2016, at around 11:30 p.m., police were called to the area of 116 Avenue and 97 Street after a man in his 40s was found dead, in an alley, with obvious signs of trauma.    

An autopsy has been scheduled with the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office for Monday, Apr. 11, 2016.

Police have no suspects in custody and Homicide Section continues to investigate.

Police seek witnesses in southeast neighborhood; bullet casings found in suite

Southeast Division officers are seeking witnesses to any suspicious activity they may have seen, in the area of 38 Avenue and Millwoods Road, early yesterday morning.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., on Friday, April 8, 2016, patrol officers were called to the report of suspicious circumstances in a southeast neighborhood, after a passerby noticed a shattered door.

When officers arrived, they found what appeared to be a shot-out patio door and a number of dispensed rounds of ammunition present in the suite. No one was present upon police arrival.

Investigators are hoping to speak with any potential witnesses who may have been in the area around 9 a.m. yesterday morning.

Police continue to investigate.

Police seek public’s assistance in locating missing 12-year-old youth

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 12-year-old boy who was last heard from yesterday.

Kevin Wickberg, 12, was last seen on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at approximately 3:30 p.m., when he left Parkview School, at 14313 92 Avenue, on foot. It is unknown whether Wickberg left school alone or with another person(s).

Wickberg’s disappearance is considered out of character and therefore there are concerns for his well-being. There is nothing to suggest that the youth has met with foul play.

Wickberg was last seen wearing a light grey sweatshirt with a plaid interior, a dark t-shirt, and dark blue track pants. He was also wearing grey shoes and carrying a black backpack.

The youth is described as an aboriginal male, 5’4”, 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police investigating collision after man struck in crosswalk

The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Branch is investigating a collision that occurred earlier this morning in the city’s southeast.

At around 9:20 a.m. today, Apr. 7, 2016, it was reported that a 70-year-old male was crossing in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 48 Street and Millwoods Road. At the same time, a middle-aged man, driving a GMC 3500 Van, was conducting a left turn (northbound) onto 48 Street when he allegedly struck the pedestrian.

EMS treated and transported the 70-year-old man to hospital, where he remains in critical, but stable condition.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol to be factors in this collision. No charges have been laid against the driver at this time. The investigation continues.
