Downtown Division investigation leads to $100,000 drug-related seizure

The Edmonton Police Service seized nearly $100,000 in drugs and paraphernalia last week from a residence in downtown Edmonton; two individuals are now facing drug-related charges.

Downtown Division Beat officers conducted an investigation that culminated on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 with the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the area of 95 Street and 105 Avenue. The seized items, with a street value of nearly $100,000, include:

• 86 grams of marijuana
• 2.5 grams of methamphetamine
• Approximately 10,000 various prescription pills, including oxycontin and dilaudid
• Multiple cellular phones
• Two scales and multiple drug bags
• Replica firearm

 

A man and a woman were arrested on the property without incident.

Louis Cook, 54, and Tammy Severight, 40, are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x16), possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to public.

Police seek public’s assistance in identifying persons of interest in armed B&E

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two persons of interest in connection with an armed residential break and enter in southwest Edmonton in January.

Southwest patrol members responded to a call for assistance at a suite on Mullen Place in the neighbourhood of MacTaggart, at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016.

It was reported that a male and female complainant were bound and had property stolen, while the third, a male complainant, was bound and assaulted suffering serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Investigators believe this was a targeted incident.

The identification of the two female persons of interest seen in the attached surveillance photos would assist detectives with their investigation.

Police investigating armed robbery at convenience store

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a report of an armed robbery earlier today at a convenience store in northeast Edmonton.

Just after midnight, Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, it was reported that two masked males with firearms entered a convenience store in the area of 40 Street and Hermitage Road. An employee was assaulted during this event which resulted in serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A third suspect (female) was also involved in this incident. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and other store products.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect #1: Aboriginal or Caucasian male, slim build and about six feet tall. He was wearing a black jacket, blue pants, white runners, and a black mask.

Suspect #2: Aboriginal or Caucasian male with an average build and about 5’8” to 5’10” tall. He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hoody, grey sweat pants and a black mask.

Suspect#3: Female, short and stocky and was wearing a hoody.

Fatal single-vehicle collision on Anthony Henday

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning on the Anthony Henday.

West Division responded to a single-vehicle collision just after 2 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016. It was reported that a 58-year-old male was driving a 2014 Honda Civic northbound on the Anthony Henday when the vehicle struck a bridge support at 87 Avenue. The male driver was pronounced deceased on scene.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision. The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to investigate.

This is Edmonton’s third traffic fatality in 2016.

Priest charged in connection with alleged historic sexual assaults

The Edmonton Police Service has charged an Anglican priest in connection to allegations of historical sexual assaults.

In September 2015, the Edmonton Police Service commenced an investigation into reports of sexual assaults that had allegedly occurred at the Edmonton Youth Development Centre during the 1980s.

It was reported that Father Gordon William Dominey sexually assaulted five complainants, who were youth at the time of the alleged incidents, while he was employed at the incarceration facility from 1985-89.

Police also believe there may be additional victims and witnesses. Investigators are asking anyone with information about “Father Gord” to come forward and contact the Edmonton Police Service.

The EPS arrested the accused without incident on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, in Coquitlam with the assistance of the Coquitlam RCMP.

Gordon William Dominey, 63, is facing charges of sexual assault (x5) and gross indecency (x5).

EPS lays six charges related to barricaded incident in west Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service has laid six charges related to an incident that occurred in west Edmonton that transpired over 12 hours in January 2016.

A 31-year-old Edmonton man who barricaded himself in a residence has been charged with assault, intimidation, careless use/storage/possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm and flight from police.

Background

On Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, around 10:45 p.m. the EPS received a call to check on the welfare of a man.

It was reported that a man allegedly had a weapon and was driving a vehicle. The EPS located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the vehicle fled police.

A criminal flight response was initiated and with the assistance of Air-1, a man was observed running from the vehicle into a residence in the area of 90 Avenue and 154 Street. 

EPS specialized resources, including the Negotiators Unit, maintained communication with the 31-year-old barricaded man. During the occurrence, police took public safety measures and notified near-by residents and alerted schools in the area.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 officers apprehended the lone male in the residence without incident.

Arson detectives investigate suspicious parkade fire

The Edmonton Police Service Arson Unit is investigating a suspicious residential parkade fire that occurred over the weekend.

On Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, Edmonton Fire Rescue called the EPS to investigate a suspicious fire that occurred between 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the area of 98 Street and 84 Avenue.

Investigators believe a 2015 white Ford F150 was deliberately set on fire in a residential parkade. The fire also damaged two other vehicles (1991 GMC Sierra and a 1998 Dodge Caliber) and the parkade. No injuries were reported.
