Police seek public’s assistance in locating white or silver sedan in connection with Sunday evening collision involving pedestrian

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a white or silver sedan in connection with a Sunday evening hit-and-run collision that sent a 46-year-old male to hospital in critical condition.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Oct. 5, 2014, it was reported that a vehicle travelling northbound on Rabbit Hill Road collided with a male pedestrian in the crosswalk at Hodgson Boulevard. The pedestrian is believed to have been crossing Rabbit Hill road from the southeast corner and walking toward the southwest corner in a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.



Witnesses told police the vehicle, which is described as being a small white or silver sedan, was last seen driving northbound on Rabbit Hill Road., after colliding with the pedestrian.



The 46-year-old male was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition with multiple injuries.

Charges laid in March west-end homicide

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section has laid charges and are still looking for a female suspect in relation to the death of Ashley John George Macneil, 34, who died from a stab wound on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.

“It appears Macneil had just recently returned from Nova Soctia to work in Alberta and unfortunately lost his life when a drug deal went bad,” says Det. Dan Collins with Homicide Section. “A team of EPS homicide investigators have been working hard over the last six months to collect substantial evidence to lay charges against two suspects.”

On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, homicide detectives charged Daryle Victor Kidder, 36, with second degree murder, possession of an offensive weapon and breach of recognizance. Kidder remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.

The investigation continues with the Edmonton Police Service asking for the public’s assistance in locating Stephanie Pricilla Laderoute, 34. She is facing charges and is wanted on warrants for second degree murder and accessory after the fact. Laderoute has been known to dye and/or shave her hair and may look different than the photo below.

EPS Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of a 34-year-old male, which is believed to have occurred in a parking lot in the area of 168 Street and 118 Avenue on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.

Investigations reveal that an altercation took place in the parking lot between two men just after 2 a.m. this morning, which led to one of the males being stabbed. The stabbing victim was treated at the scene but died a short time later in hospital.

The Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy on the victim of a stabbing which occurred on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in a parking lot in the area of 168 Street and 118 Avenue.

It has been determined that Ashley John George Macneil, 34, died from a stab wound.

Six-month investigation culminates with arrests in Windermere condo arson

A comprehensive investigation into the Cove Properties - Essence at Windermere condo arson has culminated with the arrest and charges of two Edmonton-area men.

Members of the EPS Arson Unit took over the investigation shortly after the March 15, 2014 blaze, which caused an estimated $6M in total damages to a new condo development near 10 Avenue and 173 Street.



More than six months later, an investigative team comprised of more than 60 EPS members from multiple sections, arrested and charged Eric Gould, 28, a construction framer, with arson, possession incendiary material (x2), break and enter, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, public mischief, fraud, weapons charges and mischief.



Jeremy Thibert, 22, is charged with arson, possession incendiary material, break and enter, theft under $5,000 and conspiracy.



“This was a complex investigation that lasted over six months,” said Staff Sgt. Terry Innes, of the EPS Arson Unit. These arrests were achieved as a result of the extensive time commitment and excellent police work by dozens of members from specialized areas across the Edmonton Police Service.”



Gould is also facing another charge of arson in connection with a 2011 fire at a residential building site in Pigeon Lake. Gould was employed as a framer on the Pigeon Lake building site, at that time.

Man charged in connection with hit and run spree in downtown Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service has charged a 22-year-old male in connection with a series of hit and run collisions that occurred yesterday afternoon in downtown Edmonton.

It was reported that at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, a dark green Eagle Vision sedan, believed to be stolen, mounted the south sidewalk on 105 Avenue eastbound from 97 Street and struck two pedestrians who were walking eastbound. The pedestrians were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The vehicle allegedly continued to 101 Street, where it struck a male pedestrian walking near a marked crosswalk. This individual has not yet been identified and is asked to contact police.

It was reported the vehicle then continued south on 101 Street, and eventually north on 105 Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection of 105 Street and 103 Avenue, it allegedly slowed for two pedestrians crossing 105 Street eastbound, and accelerated toward the pedestrians once they were in front of the vehicle. The male pedestrian was struck and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female pedestrian was able to move out of the way and was not injured.

The vehicle allegedly proceeded northbound on 105 Street and collided with two cars before the accused fled the scene on foot. A citizen assisted officers by identifying the accused, who was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Brandon James Hudson, 22, faces numerous charges: dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident with a person (x2), failure to stop at the scene of an accident with a vehicle (x2), impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, assault, assault with a weapon (x3), theft of motor vehicle and breach of conditions (x4).

Car club plays host to annual Teddy Bear Collection for EPS Victim Services Unit

Every day, advocates within the EPS Victim Services Unit respond to families in distress dealing with tragedy. And often, the simple and loving gesture of presenting a traumatized child with a new teddy bear to clutch can be a calming influence, during an otherwise traumatic situation. With this in mind, the Edmonton Thunderbird Club will host its annual Teddy Bear Collection drive for the Edmonton Police Service Victim Services Unit on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., during its annual classic car Show and Shine.



“I can’t emphasize enough what a small gesture it really is in the grand scheme of things, but what a meaningful thing it is to a young child, who may suffering from trauma and in a state of shock,” said Wes Armstrong, VSU Coordinator for EPS Downtown Division.



“Last year, through the generosity of the public, more than 800 teddy bears were donated during the car club’s annual Show and Shine. This year, we’re hoping we can raise more than 1,000 teddy bears, which are always in high demand throughout our unit.”



The 2014 Edmonton Thunderbird Club Show and Shine is being held in the parking lot of the St. Albert A & W Restaurant located in the Gateway Village shopping Centre, at St. Albert Trail and Hebert Road.



Members of the public are encouraged to bring down a teddy bear to this year’s Show and Shine, which usually fill up several of the classic cars.

Commercial vehicle safety still a concern on Edmonton roadways

The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section was out on major roadways conducting commercial vehicle safety inspections this week, and in the three-day safety blitz, almost half of the vehicles failed to meet safety regulation standards.

The fall 2014 commercial vehicle check took place from Sept. 16 to 18, 2014, and resulted in 232 vehicles inspected, with 695 violations, 113 summonses, and 17 vehicles towed from check points. Only 31 per cent of the commercial vehicles passed inspection, while 24 per cent required attention and 45 per cent of vehicles were declared out of service. EPS officers also laid one criminal charge of driving while disqualified.

Similarly in fall 2013, 275 vehicles were inspected, with 845 violations, 131 summonses, and 31 vehicles towed from inspection sites. Only 30 per cent of vehicles passed the safety check, 24 per cent of vehicles required attention, and 46 per cent declared out of service.

“We conduct these inspections to help bring attention to hazards and to encourage the safe operation of commercial vehicles in Edmonton,” says Sgt. Kerry Bates with the EPS Commercial Vehicle Inspection Detail. “Commercial vehicles need regular maintenance for safe operation. It’s a shared responsibility between companies and drivers to ensure these vehicles are being operated in a manner that is safe for all motorists on the road.”

Safety inspectors checked commercial vehicles over 4,500 kg for faulty equipment, oversize loads, dangerous or stolen goods, load securement and the condition of drivers.

The Edmonton Police Service Traffic Section conducts Commercial Vehicles Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspections throughout the year in partnership with numerous municipal and provincial regulatory agencies.

Motorcyclist taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating an early-morning collision that sent a motorcyclist to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Southwest Division patrol members responded to an area just east of the Cameron Heights turnoff westbound on the Anthony Henday, at approximately 6 a.m. today. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 24-year-old male, lying on the Henday and suffering from multiple injuries.



Witnesses told police it appeared the motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic and was attempting to squeeze between two semi-tractor trailer units, when he allegedly struck the side of one truck and lost control of his Ninja motorcycle.

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist on scene, before transporting him to hospital, where he remains in unstable condition.

Major Collision investigators expect to reopen the westbound lanes to oncoming traffic at approximately 1:30 p.m. today. In the meantime, motorists travelling west on the Anthony Henday are asked to exit the Henday at any off-ramp east of the Cameron Heights turnoff.
