Police seek public’s assistance in locating missing 21-year-old male

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Gamteysa Muhamed, who has been missing for close to a week now.

Muhamed, 21, was last seen on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014. Police believe Muhamed left his home to meet with family and friends that afternoon, before disappearing sometime later that day.



Muhamed’s family say their son’s disappearance for this length of time is out of character and they’re concerned about his well-being. The 21 year old is described as having a medium brown complexion and is six feet tall, 185 pounds in weight with short, brown hair and a wave. He was wearing a red sweatshirt and jeans at the time of his disappearance

Motorcyclists seriously injured during apparent racing incident on 50th Street

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating what appears to be a road racing incident that sent two motorcyclists to hospital with serious injuries. Southeast Division patrol members responded to an area near 50 Street and 103 Avenue, at approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. Upon arrival, officers discovered two males, one lying on the road and the other on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple injuries.



Witnesses told police that it appeared the motorcyclists were racing northbound on 50^th Street, and weaving in and out of traffic, when they allegedly struck a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, that was turning east into a residential driveway. That stretch of roadway runs through the residential neighbourhood of Capilano. It carries a posted maximum speed limit of 50 km/h.



Paramedics treated the two males, aged 40 and 48, on scene, before transporting them to hospital with multiple injuries.

EPS Major Collision Section investigating pedestrian fatal

The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating the death of a male, whose body was found in the westbound lanes of Fox Drive early Saturday morning.

Southwest Division patrol members responded to the area near Fort Edmonton Park at approximately 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, after receiving a 911 call from a motorist who came upon the body of a deceased male believed to be in his mid-20s.



Witnesses told police that several vehicles drove by what appeared to be an “object” in the middle of the road, before an oncoming vehicle appeared to strike the male, dragging his body a short distance down Fox Drive. Investigators have yet to determine whether the male died on scene or was dropped off there.



The Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy to determine identity of the deceased and cause of death, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014.

Police seek witnesses to assault in Twin Brooks

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking witnesses to an alleged assault, which occurred in the southwest neighbourhood of Twin Brooks on Aug. 26, 2014.

On that Tuesday morning, sometime between 8 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., a male resident left his home near 12 Avenue and 119 Street. While backing up his vehicle down the driveway, the male was approached by two other males dressed in construction overalls, who had just exited a pick- up truck.



The resident then engaged the two supposed construction workers in conversation, before he was allegedly assaulted by the two males, who struck him numerous times as he sat in his vehicle. The two males then fled the area in the pick-up truck.



The complainant sustained minor facial injuries that required medical attention. 83 Avenue shooting suspect turns himself in to police

A suspect wanted in connection with an Aug. 25, 2014 shooting just north of Whyte Avenue has turned himself in to police.

Wanted on Canada-wide warrants for numerous fire-arm related charges, including manslaughter while using a firearm, Collin James Courteoreille, 20, turned himself in to Stony Plain RCMP yesterday afternoon without incident.



Courteoreille is now in EPS custody and will be remanded until Sept. 11, 2014, at which time he is scheduled to appear in court.



Background:

EPS Southwest patrol members responded to a report of a male being shot in an apartment suite in the area of 105 Street and 83 Avenue at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2014. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male in distress, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his head. Paramedics treated the male on scene, before transporting him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

EPS and partners conduct sweep of North Saskatchewan shoreline

The Edmonton Police Service and several of its partnering organizations will be conducting a sweep of the North Saskatchewan River shoreline today, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, in an effort to locate any potential human remains.

Led by the EPS Missing Persons Unit, the initiative will also utilize ground and flight operations from EPS Air 1, the Edmonton Fire and Rescue boat and City of Edmonton Park Rangers. This initiative is running in conjunction with an RCMP search of the river outside of the City of Edmonton utilizing RCMP air resources.


“This is a first-time initiative that will focus resources on searching the river and its shoreline for possible human remains from one end of the city to the other,” said EPS Const. Cory Kerr, of the service’s Missing Persons Unit.



“We’re not looking for one individual per say. This is a proactive deployment of multiple ground and air resources for one day, which will focus specifically on a primary river artery that travels through our city.”



The search commenced at the EPS boat launch, located near the EPCOR water treatment facility, and fanned out east and west along the river shoreline.



Kerr says he’s hopeful the initiative will become an annual initiative between EPS and its partnering organizations.
